HP Printers - Print Jobs Stuck in Print Queue (Windows) This document is for HP printers and computers with Windows. The printer cannot print from a computer because a print job is stuck in the Windows print queue. This stuck print job cannot be cancelled or deleted and prevents further print jobs from printing. Clicking Cancel on the job in the queue, does nothing. Figure : Example of a stuck job in queue that cannot be cancelled This issue can occur due to a variety of reasons, such as power outages, but always involves the print job spooling process in Windows. Recommended: Use the HP Guided Solution Let us guide you through the solution. OR follow the steps below. Step 1: Delete job files and restart Whenever a print job is sent to the printer a file is created in Windows. Sometimes these files become corrupt and cause problems. print and status stays as ‘printing'. The most frequent problem with printers (apart from the ridiculous cost of ink!) is when documents are not printing because a document gets ‘stuck’ in the print queue – meaning that it won’t print out.You will not receive an error message but the http://techlogon.com/2011/07/12/documents-not-printing-stuck-in-print-queue/ status of the document in the print queue will stay as ‘printing’ forever and never actually print. Can’t I Just Delete The Document? You should certainly try this first but often it will not work – the ‘stuck’ document will change https://askleo.com/how_do_i_remove_a_document_stuck_in_my_printers_queue/ to ‘deleting in progress’ but never actually delete. Until it is deleted properly no further documents can be printed because they are in a queue (the first job submitted must be printed before any subsequent jobs can progress) – so printer error if you keep on trying to print more documents to ‘test things’ you will just end up with loads of print jobs queued up…How To Fix It - The fix is simple. You need to clear the print queue manually so that all the print jobs currently in the queue are deleted properly – once the queue is empty you should then be able to print new documents without problems. We will show you how below, depending on whether you use error printing windows XP or Vista/7:1. XP – click ‘Start’ then click ‘Run’ and in the Run window type CMD then press ‘OK’ – this opens a Command Prompt window. Now skip to Step 3.2. Vista/7 – click ‘Start’ and type Command in the search box. Right click on the ‘Command Prompt’ result in the search results above it and select ‘Run As Administrator’ – this opens a Command Prompt window.3. All version of Windows – in the Command Prompt window (these commands are also shown in the picture below):4. Type net stop spooler then press the Enter key.5. Type del %windir%\system32\spool\printers\*.* /q then press the Enter key (Note: the only spaces in this command are a single space between del and %, and a single space between * and /q)6. Type net start spooler then press the Enter key.7. Type exit then press the Enter key to exit the Command Prompt window.Fixing the print queueThis should have cleared the print queue (i.e. all print jobs have been deleted) and you can now submit new jobs for printing 🙂What Do These Commands Do?The Command Prompt is a throwback to the pre-Windows days of Microsoft DOS but is still a useful way to type and enter system commands. The print Spooler is basically the print ‘queue’ – we need to Stop it running before we can Delete documents stuck in it.The Del command deletes everything currently held in the print queue, including the ‘stuck
Date Social Facebook Twitter Google+ Pinterest YouTube About Making Technology Work For Everyone Loading How do I remove a document stuck in my printer's queue? Every so often the Windows Print Queue will get "stuck". Everything looks like it should print, but it won't. We'll clear that up. //
I'm trying to delete a document in the queue of my printer, but I can't. It writes "deleting", but it never finishes, I've tried to cancel the same from the field of my printer but it doesn't disappear, restarting my computer, restarting the document, turning off the printer, unplugging the cables, still I can't. What else can I do? It doesn't allow other documents to print! When you print a document, say from your word processing program, that document is not sent directly to your printer. Instead it gets placed in a queue. The idea is that then once placed into the queue, the printer software will come along notice that there's something in the queue that needs to be printed, and print it. Sometimes the queue gets "stuck", for lack of a better word. And it can be really, really frustrating. Since you can run many applications on your computer at once, and they could all try to print at once, the documents to be printed need to be printed in sequence somehow. Windows handles this by creating what's called the print queue. When an application prints a document it's placed into this queue of documents to be printed. When the printer is ready and available - perhaps after having completed printing a prior document - the next document in the queue ready to be printed is then actually printed. “ What do you do when the printer should be printing, the print queue shows several documents ready to be printed, and yet … The print queue is managed by the "Print Spooler" service
