The most common area for paper to jam is underneath the toner; first pull your toner cartridge out and verify there is no paper stuck in that area. If that area looks clean, you can take a thin cardboard (like a manilla folder or similar) and trim it to Letter size 8 1/2" by 11". Turn the power off, remove Tray 2, and gently feed the manilla folder into the paper path for Tray 2. You are trying to knock loose any obstructions in the path, like bits of paper, staples. Insert that in and work it gently up and down. Reinstall Tray 2 and see if your manuevering cleared the error. If not, you should check the little black plastic sensor flag near the registration assembly, sits near the front middle, underneath the toner. Verify that tiny plastic sensor is in good working order and operates properly (it should have an attached spring and should move back and forth to the touch.) If you don't find any actual paper jammed and the sensor seems to move freely, you should verify the fuser is correct by checking the part # on the fuser, see details below. When you see this 13.20.00 error, you should verify you have the correct fuser installed for your model. HP makes 3 different fusers which look identical, but the 3 fusers are not interchangeable between printer models. The outside plastic and metal frame look the same, but the inner wiring is different. If the incorrect fuser is installed, you can get a 13.20.00 error (or a 50.5 error in some cases) when you power on the printer. Fusers are a consumable part and are sold as part of a maintenance kit; it is expected over the life of the printer you will replace the fuser several times. HP estimates average fuser life to l
Left Door. This is when it's initialising - not when I try and print something. There is no paper stuck anywhere in that area. I've taken the duplex unit out and tried again but it makes no difference. I've taken the fuser out but can't see any problems. The little arm which senses the paper on the fuser unit moves freely and I can see the little flag on the left movin in and out of the sensor as I lift the arm up and down. Tried cleaning the sensor with a cotton bud when I had the fuser out. http://www.printertechs.com/printer-troubleshooting/370-13-20-error-on-hp-laserjet-4200-or-hp-laserjet-4300-series I've checked under the toner, had both paper trays out but can't see anything. I'm stumped. Can anyone offer any suggestions please?ThanksJohn Respond to this 0 The one place you have not checked is the facedown exit assembly. I am not sure if this work on the 8000 but worth a try. With the power off take a sheet of letter paper and open the door below the manual feeder on the rigt side http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/posts/45788 and put the paper in the path and close the door. Now turn on the printer. I know on the 8100 series it will after warmup give the message checking paper path and will take that sheet and feed it through the path to the facedown exit assembly and it the sensor flag is stuck in the facedown asembly or a piece of paper there it will sometimes clear it. If that does not happen, you need to remove the top cover and check the sensor flag towards the back on the left side. It sometimes pops out of it holder and sticks in the up position indicating paper still present when none is there. Just press it back down into the hold and it should be good to go. by dmzcompute on Mar 8, 2007 at 4:42pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 Thanks for your reply. I tried inserting a sheet of paper in the paper path as you suggested but then when I turn on I just get the error message 13.20 Paper Jam Check Right Door. When I take the paper out again and close the door it changes back to 13.20 Paper Jam Check Left Door. The small sensor arm in the middle at the top where the paper exits moves freely. If I f
there. Fuser looks fine. can someone tell me where the sensor is that would flag this error, I'm guessing that it is reporting a false positive or is stuck or broken.Does any one have a pdf version of the manual available? http://fixyourownprinter.com/posts/52688 Respond to this 0 Looking at the back of the fuser, there is a black plastic piece http://tech.firstpost.com/watch-videos/how-to-fix-hp-printer-error-132000-in-hp-4200-4250-4300-4350-series-printer_E5OBrBNa4K4.html going lengthwise above the white plastic part with the small rubber rollers at the top. If you lift up on it, you'll see the arm of the paper sensor sticking up in the center. Reach in and pull it towards you, it should fall back. The rear position would be the normal one that doesn't trip the jam message. by moe on Dec 12, 2007 at 11:53am Add printer error comment Please sign in to comment 0 The sensor stands vertically , i can push it in about 1/4 inch and pull it forward about 1/2 inch where it touches the white plastic part of the fuser, it then rebounds to it's normal vertical position. it appears to be moving like one would expect. but error message persists. by newbie1234 on Dec 12, 2007 at 12:11pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 I mamaged to find another used fuser (with it's own set of printer error 13.20 problems) but when installing it i get the same error message, I think I can rule out the fuser sensor. by newbie1234 on Dec 12, 2007 at 12:18pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 The 13.20 on the 4200 is a common error and the problem most times is the sensor flag behind tray 1 on the paper pickup unit has been jammed in the down position or there is a piece of paper stuck there. First thing to try is to get a stiff file folder and cut it down to about 5 inches accross and feed in up thru the bottom first on the left side and then on the right side and see if that solves the issue. If not you may have ot remove the tray 1 assembly to access that flag which is left of center on the paper feed assembly. Most times when someone removes a jam by pulling the paper back down into the tray cavity real fast it forces that flag to get stuck in the down position and it is usually stuck real good. by dmzcompute on Dec 12, 2007 at 7:05pm Add comment Please sign in to comment i've solved the problem by pushing the sensor back in, the one behind tray 1, but after about a week, it locks up again, happened on 2 printers. is there a larger assembly i could replace, or do you know of why thats happening.thanks - adih i've fixed this problem by taking tray 1 assembly,
