error will reprint. This is unacceptable from a printer that prints reams and reams of reports from a college mainframe and has its control panel locked to prevent tampering by the mainframe operators. However you can try a sem-full reset to factory default conditions by 1. unplugging the power cord while the printer is powered on and 2. press and hold the OK and Cancel buttons while plugging in the power cord. If this this does not clear the error you probably have a hardware issue. On my printer, after going through a diagnostic procedure with the HP Chat Tech and concluding a hardware issue I did a bit more research and then took the printer apart. It turns out that a fairly common problem is for the large white gear on the left side of the printer that drives the ink pump comes off the shaft. I reassembled it to the shaft and put the printer back together. When I plugged in the power cord the printer started and did about a 5 minute maintenance procedure and now works fine. fixyourownprinter.com it says: Error 55 (internal communication problem) On the HP 2 series you have to replace both the dc controller and formatter boards. On all other printers it can be several things: DC controller, formatter, main motor But it doesn't say specifically what the "A" means. I bet it tells you which part is going out. Anyone have a really complete list of error codes for the Laserjet 8000? -- Bogus e-mail address, but I read this newsgroup regularly, so reply here. The best answer I could find is from page 438 of the HP Laserjet 8000 Service Manual. The "A" in 55.A means "HUNG_COMMUNICATIONS" (Press Go to clear the error message.) Hope this helps. While I'm here, I'd like to thank you for all your previous informative posts about the HP 8000DN. My wife and I recently purchased a used 8000DN with a page count of 283,000. So far it's been great; we love the 11"x17" and duplexing capabilities. I'm amazed at the amount of work that you've sent through your 8000DN and 5Si, and I hope we get that kind of longevity as well. Can you (or anyone) recommend some reputable companies that sell quality maintenance kits and remanufactured toner cartridges? You mention that eBay is the best place for parts and consumables, but I've noticed that eBay is becoming a big gamble. The more I use it, the more bad deals I experience. (And I've used eBay for over 6 years now.) Looking fo
