All I get in either the system-config-printer or cups > http gui is: "Unable to get printer status (client-error-forbidden)!" > The first step it to stop using system-config-printer to configure CUPS printers. Always use the CUPS web gui. Now configure the printer using the GUI after removing all definitions of the printer in system-config-printer. system-config-printer is simply a mess in configuring CUPS printers. Once you configure the printer on the server go to the client(s) . Again remove all definitions of the printer using system-config-printer and the Cups web interface. Now this is all you need to do to get printing to work from the client. In the /etc/cups/client.conf file alter the line: ServerName myhost.domain.com to point to your server and then restart cups. Printing should now work from the client through the server to the printer. If that does not work ask again. Also since you are using a HP printer install HPLIP from Sourceforge or through rpms. These updated HP printer drivers can not be accessed from system-config-printer. ------------------------------------------- Aaron Konstam Computer Science Trinity University telephone: (210)-999-7484 Follow-Ups: Re: CUPS sharing "Unable to get printer status (client-error-forbidden)!" Subject: unable to get printer status (client -error forbidden) - of print server Date: Fri, 23 Jul 2004 13:29:42 -0700 (PDT) Client sends print job, but "unable to get printer status (client -error forbidden)" of print server... Hi, I 'm trying to get a second machine to see a print server. Both are running FC2, I've Googled for appropriate instructions, and looked at cups.org, but don't find anything appropriate. I'd sure appreciate some help. TIA. Problem- On sending print job, error message shows up in Print Manager- "Unable to get printer status (client -error forbidden)" - and printer does not respond. https://www.redhat.com/archives/rhl-list/2005-December/msg01817.html However, the printer IS seen as default, but the 'Sharing' icon has a red cross through it. Spec- Two machines running FC2. Box-A is router / firewall / print Server. Box-B is Client, and sees the Internet via eth1 of Box-A. Details- Server (Box-A) can independently print, to a HP812C DeskJet. The GUI config box indicates- Locally-connected, /dev/lp0. In Sharing properties, "this queue is able to be used by https://www.redhat.com/archives/rhl-list/2004-July/msg05394.html other computers," and "allowed hosts" is Single IP address of client 192.168.1.10. the Server name is recorded in /etc/hosts of Client. I've played with this for hours, so sure would appreciate any advice! tia Kate Below is the cupsd.conf from Server (Box-A) ## # End of "$Id: cupsd.conf.in,v 1.13 2003/04/10 20:14:04 mike Exp $". # Order Deny,Allow Deny From All Allow From 127.0.0.1 AuthType None Order Deny,Allow Deny From All Allow From 127.0.0.1 AuthType None # Lines below are automatically generated - DO NOT EDIT Order Deny,Allow Deny From All Allow From 127.0.0.1 AuthType None Allow from 192.168.1.10 Order Deny,Allow Deny From All Allow From 127.0.0.1 Browsing On BrowseProtocols cups BrowseOrder Deny,Allow BrowseAllow from @LOCAL This is the cupsd.conf from the Client Box-B ### # End of "$Id: cupsd.conf.in,v 1.13 2003/04/10 20:14:04 mike Exp $". # Order Deny,Allow Deny From All Allow From 127.0.0.1 AuthType None Order Deny,Allow Deny From All Allow From 127.0.0.1 AuthType None Allow from 192.168.1.10 # Lines below are automatically generated - DO NOT EDIT Order Deny,Allow Deny From All Allow From 127.0.0.1 AuthType None Orde
