Photoshop Program Error When Saving
file as jpeg? Totally baffled Hi everyone. I am hoping that someone can offer some suggestions. I have finished a restoration and, as always, I have created a lower res, watermarked copy to email to my client for approval. For could not complete your request because of a program error some reason however, Photoshop (CS2) will not allow me to save the file as a jpeg. The error message I receive is "cannot complete your request because of a program error." I tried saving the same file as a jpeg on my laptop which is also running CS2 and received the same error message. I have been working on other images today without any issues so can only guess that there is some corruption in the file itself? I am able to save as a TIFF file without any problems. I also just tried saving as a jpeg Using PSE7 and it worked fine. I am totally baffled. Any suggestions? Thanks Carol Carol Heath View Public Profile Visit Carol Heath's homepage! Totally baffled Take a look at the bits/channel under Image-> Mode to see if it is 8 bits or 16 bits. Might not have option to save as jpeg if 16 bits. I just googled for an answer and found this as an answer for similar problems, although it wouldn't explain why you were able to save it in PSE7. There are some folks here with great knowledge, so if this isn't the answer, hopefully someone will have one for you. Last edited by CJ Swartz; 01-18-2010 at 06:03 PM. Edit a file in Lightroom using the new local adjustments - the gradient tool or adjustment brush - and then open that file in Photoshop CS2 via Edit in Photoshop or Export…. and if you try to save it as a jpeg, Photoshop will complain with an error message which says "Could not complete your http://www.lightroomqueen.com/why-cant-cs2-save-as-jpeg-when-local-adjustments-were-used-in-lightroom/ request because of a program error". Why? Ok, it's a bug… but for once, it's not a Lightroom bug. Photoshop CS2 trips up on some perfectly legitimate metadata that Lightroom saves into the files when you've used local adjustments. CS3 and CS4 behave nicely with this metadata, but CS2 is no longer updated and so the bug will never be fixed. What can you do about it? You have a few options: Update to CS3 or CS4. Check the ‘minimize embedded metadata' checkbox in the Lightroom Export dialog, which will strip ALL of the metadata. It solves the problem, but leaves you short of any metadata in your files. Use Jeffrey's Metadata Wranger to strip just the problem metadata from the file. By far the best option! How to use Jeffrey's Metadata Wrangler To use Jeffrey's Metadata Wrangler export plugin, you'll first need to download it from: http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies/metadata-wrangler and install it using the instructions here: http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies/plugin-installation/ Then select the plugin in the lower left of the Export dialog, and you'll see the additional section appear in the main Export options panel - scroll down if you c
Jpeg due to Program Error" message. I had opened a .pdf page (generated by InDesign) and could not save it as a Jpeg. I could save it as a .psd. Another page from the same .pdf saved as a jpeg without a problem. I tried saving http://www.clearps.com/photoshop-forum/index.php/m/288921/ the .psd as a Jpeg, but get the same message. There used to be a FAQ about this, which might have been helpful, but the link is broken. Files are 8 bit. PS9.01, 10.4.7. Tue, 19 September 2006 15:44 Jay_Stadler (Photoshop begginer) previously written -- "We are finding that consistantly 3 in every 100 image files processed by capture one result in a file which having been program error exported at a 16bit rgb tiff and opened by photoshop (on different computers using different versions of Photoshop) is not able to be saved as a Jpeg. " We have had a nearly indentical experience. We are high-end prepress house that receives hundreds of files a day from different photographers. Those that use Capture One software seem to produce this error on occasion as stated in the previous post. We are changing to 8-bit before trying have a scripted version of Photoshop save to photoshop cs2 program a "thumbnail" type jpeg. Our workaround is to open the "bad" image in Photoshop (CS2), select all, copy, make a new document and paste into the new document. Saving the new document over the old as a tif, corrects the issue and the file can now be saved out to any format successfully. I would like some sort of preflight method to catch this kind of problem. So far I have a script that tries to save the file as a jpeg and catches this "program error". I would like a way to catch the problem before it goes to photoshop so I can put the file aside to be fixed or preprocessed. Is there any known way to "read" a tiff file to look for problems before opening it in Photoshop? I recommend that you back-up all the data from that Drive; and then run DiskWarrior before you do another thing and before the disk becomes unreadable. I have visited Adobe support and Forums. I see alot folks having the same issue - but no one seems to have found an answer. Some feel it's a font issue - but even with corrective measures it is still happening. Submitted: 7 years ago. Category:Computer Share this conversation Expert: Computer_James replied7 years ago. Have you already tried these solutions as of yet? One solution is to use "Minimize Embedded Metadata" in the export options. LR2 will then not write the problematic metada entry to the exported file. Unfortunately if you are like me and like to tag all your images in LR for flickr, this option dumps your tags. The other solution, which will keep your tags and extended metadata, is to remove the problematic entry in PS. To do this: - File -> File Info. - Select the "Advanced" tab in the column. - Select the "http://ns.adobe.com/camera-raw-settings/1.0/" entry group. - click Delete! You should now be able to save your jpg. Please try this and get back to me if this does not resolve your issue. Thanks, Computer_James and 7 other Computer Spec
