I was installing Win95 OS on a home-made computer(previously Win98). Used fdisk.exe to partion the HD. Then used the Win95 Boot Disk to install the OS from the CD. Prompted me to format. No problem. Win95 Installer starts, chose all the typical options. (I did all these before) Then selected 'FINISH', system reboots. After the flashing "Getting ready to run Winows 95 for the firsty time" for a while, the following error appears. "While initializing device IOS: Windows protection error. You need to restart your computer" Restarted, then the Windows95 Setup prompt appears: 1)Normal Mode 2)log.txt 3)Safe 4)Command Mode .. Whatever i choose the error would still appear. Please help, I tried to reinstall the OS a couple of times but to no avail. QUESTION: 1)What is 'device IOS'? 2)Protection Error?? My Win95 CD is an original. I did this process before on other com. without any prob. 3) Could the HD be faulty? (Was loaded with Win98 for the past 2 years before i formatted it) 4)Could it be a conflict with the motherboard (I know nuts about motherboards, and setting up hardware for installation) SPECS: AMD K-6 4550MHz 256Mb RAM GA-5AX ALi Aladdin V AGPset, GIGABYTE Motherboard Creative Graphics Blaster TNT 16Mb NOTE: No prior experience in building a com. Some experience in installing OS. Only able to install and solve simple hardware problems.
