Re: re:ERROR:ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error 585459 Jun 28, 2007 9:52 AM (in response to 367198) When installing oracle 9i there are two users sys and system who are created automatically, who have all the privileges however sys has more privileges. also the user scott is created by default. If you are not able to login then the installation may have not been done properly.better you deinstall all the products from oracle universal installer and then re-install oracle again. Now for IIS.My IIS connection string is of the form;Dim conn As New Odbc.OdbcConnection("DSN=xxx;Uid=xxx;Pwd=xxx;")However, whenever I try to open said connection, I get the ubiquitous;"ERROR [08004] [Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specifiedERROR [IM006] [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed"After much research, I came to realise that I'm not the

Have you run the netca program to configure and start the listener? The Oracle docs note that you should troubleshoot the ORA-12560 by tracing the connection: ORA-12560: TNS: protocol adapter error Cause: A generic protocol adapter error occurred. Action: Check addresses used for proper protocol specification. Before reporting this error, look at the error stack and check for lower level transport errors. For further details, turn on tracing and re-execute the operation. Turn off tracing when the operation is complete. If you are running Oracle on Windows, you may fi the ORA-12560 by running the oradim utility to create a service for the listener.
