I'm behind a proxy (that proxy authentication required eclipse mars man-in-the-middles ssl-connections to scan the communication for viruses). In Kepler it works on the same machine with the "Native" network Provider (Preferences -> General -> Network Connection). Luna with "Native" outputs the following error Information when trying to open the Eclipse Marketplace: Cannot open Eclipse Marketplace Cannot install remote marketplace locations: Cannot complete request to http://marketplace.eclipse.org/catalogs/api/p: HTTP Proxy Authentication Required: http://marketplace.eclipse.org/catalogs/api/p Cannot complete request to http://marketplace.eclipse.org/catalogs/api/p: HTTP Proxy Authentication Required: http://marketplace.eclipse.org/catalogs/api/p HTTP Proxy Authentication Required: http://marketplace.eclipse.org/catalogs/api/p Proxy Authentication Required Cannot complete request to http://marketplace.eclipse.org/catalogs/api/p: HTTP Proxy Authentication Required: http://marketplace.eclipse.org/catalogs/api/p HTTP Proxy Authentication Required: http://marketplace.eclipse.org/catalogs/api/p Proxy Authentication Required The "Network Connection" configuration is identical between Luna and Kepler (you can't change the Native provider anyway). I also tried the "Manual" provider with specifying my login details for authentication, but it doesn't work (doesn't work in Kepler as well). The "Direct" provider fails to resolve hostnames, as expected. In Luna's eclipse.ini I use the same truststore configuration as in Kepler and I copied the truststore.jks into Luna's root directory: --launcher.appendVmargs -Djav

I see where I https://www.eclipse.org/forums/index.php/t/783720/ can set the internet settings to manual and specify a proxy but there's no way to specify my authentication credentials that I can see and it doesn't prompt me for them either. So I'm not able to hit any plugin update sites etc... Does anyone else have this issue or know a good workaround? Or is there a better version of Eclipse to use? eclipse proxy credentials share|improve this question asked Dec 21 '09 at 16:08 jtruelove 1,36121627 add a comment| 7 http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1940984/how-to-specify-eclipse-proxy-authentication-credentials Answers 7 active oldest votes up vote 49 down vote accepted In Eclipse, go to Window → Preferences → General → Network Connections. In the Active Provider combo box, choose "Manual". In the proxy entries table, for each entry click "Edit..." and supply your proxy host, port, username and password details. share|improve this answer edited Dec 21 '09 at 16:32 answered Dec 21 '09 at 16:24 Eli Acherkan 5,02321633 wouldn't that involve putting my password in plain text? also what is the format of the string? –jtruelove Dec 21 '09 at 16:28 1. If you want Eclipse (or any tool, for that matter) to perform authentication for you, then you have to tell it your password :-) Why is that a problem? 2. The format of which string? –Eli Acherkan Dec 21 '09 at 16:35 thanks I just missed that dialog somehow. –jtruelove Dec 21 '09 at 17:00 3 Eclipse 3.4+ will automatically encrypt your proxy authentication info using a master password as part of its secure storage feature. help.eclipse.org/helios/index.jsp?topic=/… –Noel Oct 27 '10 at 14:37 After these steps Eclipse Mars (4.5.1) will crash on startup. –Pete V. The problem displayed is "HTTP Proxy Authentication Required". In my case the Eclipse was configured to use the native proxy settings (configured at the operating system proxy authentication required level). Solution The problem appears to be from apache httpclient library and to fix this need to be disabled, by adding this line in eclipse.ini file: -Dorg.eclipse.ecf.provider.filetransfer.excludeContributors=org.eclipse.ecf.provider.filetransfer.httpclient4 1 -Dorg.eclipse.ecf.provider.filetransfer.excludeContributors=org.eclipse.ecf.provider.filetransfer.httpclient4 My entire eclipse.ini file looks like this now: -startup plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.3.100.v20150511-1540.jar --launcher.library plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.win32.win32.x86_64_1.1.300.v20150602-1417 -product org.eclipse.epp.package.jee.product --launcher.defaultAction openFile --launcher.XXMaxPermSize 256M -showsplash org.eclipse.platform --launcher.XXMaxPermSize 256m --launcher.defaultAction openFile --launcher.appendVmargs -vmargs -Dosgi.requiredJavaVersion=1.7 -Dorg.eclipse.ecf.provider.filetransfer.excludeContributors=org.eclipse.ecf.provider.filetransfer.httpclient4 -Xms256m -Xmx1024m 12345678910111213141516171819202122 -startupplugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.3.100.v20150511-1540.jar--launcher.libraryplugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.win32.win32.x86_64_1.1.300.v20150602-1417-productorg.eclipse.epp.package.jee.product--launcher.defaultActionopenFile--launcher.XXMaxPermSize256M-showsplashorg.eclipse.platform--launcher.XXMaxPermSize256m--launcher.defaultActionopenFile--launcher.appendVmargs-vmargs-Dosgi.requiredJavaVersion=1.7-Dorg.eclipse.ecf.provider.filetransfer.excludeContributors=org.eclipse.ecf.provider.filetransfer.httpclient4-Xms256m-Xmx1024m References Disabling Apache Httpclient Share this article Caga This as well as reading a bunch of other documents helped me solve the problem that I was having with our corporate environment.
