80 G Storage May 2, 2012 9:54:36 AM If the drive was the issue you should be able to put your Windows dvd into the cd/dvd drive and boot to that. You would then install Windows to the new hard drive from the dvd, and after it was finished you would then need to finish installing any drivers that Windows didn't already have. You might need to move your cd/dvd drive up in the boot order in the bios of the machine. m 0 l j4gged August 22, 2012 6:22:41 PM tomatthe said:If the drive was the issue you should be able to put your Windows dvd into the cd/dvd drive and boot to that. If a new hard disk is used, and the same error corrurs, then logically the old HD may not be at fault. I am running into the same problem. I am going to see if i can update the BIOS as in this case i am using a fresh SSD drive which works without issues in a second laptop, but in this laptop i get the "Built-in HDD Error" messa

Pxe E61 Media Test Failure Hp
Post by Abdulwahab786 0 6 Years Ago I have a friend's Toshiba Tecra M2. When it tries to boot it shows pxe e61 media test failure check cable lenovo laptop the errors: IDE #0 Error PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel Boot Agent. Insert system disk in drive. Press any key when ready.... The hard drive wasn't recognized in the BIOS, http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/283661-32-built-error so I replaced it with a new drive. The new drive is recognized in the BIOS and the IDE error went away. I tried booting from the CD drive using an XP disk and a Vista disk, but I keep getting the PXE errors. I have tried many different setting in the BIOS including the boot order. Any idea what the problem could be? If the motherboard was https://www.daniweb.com/hardware-and-software/hardware/threads/299964/laptop-wont-boot-from-hard-drive-or-disk bad would I be able to get to BIOS? Is it most likely a bad CD drive or connection? Thanks jaso24 4 posts since Jul 2010 Newbie Member troubleshooting-hardware 0 finito 46 6 Years Ago PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel Boot Agent. Error is for Network boot, your machine seems to be skipping boot to HD. What you want to do is Set CD to boot first. If you are doing that then maybe your XP disk is not bootable or the CD rom drive is not working. Can you check the CD in another computer? 0 Discussion Starter jaso24 6 Years Ago I have it set to boot to CD. The XP disk works on another computer. Are there any other possible reasons for the problem other than the CD drive? The hard drive needed to be replaced, so is it likely that something else failed at the same time? Thanks 0 finito 46 6 Years Ago It is possible, I don't know the exact situation and reason you changed the hard drive, so I can't say anything for certain. Why don't you make a Bootable USB drive. Who uses CD's anyway? I mean they are stil
a Toshiba Satellite P15-S479 laptop. I just replaced the hard drive and when I tried to turn my computer on I get this error: Intel UNDI, PXE-2.0 (build 082) Copyright (c) 1997-2000 Intel Corporation For Reatek RTL8139(x)/8130/810x PCI Fast Ethernet Controller v2.13 (020326) http://www.asklaptopfreak.com/pxe-e61-failure-message-after-hard-drive-replacement/ PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM. I can see in the BIOS screen http://www.tech-faq.com/how-to-solve-pxe-e61-media-test-failure-check-cable-error.html that it recognizes the new hard drive but all I keep getting is that message. I would really appreciate any help you can give me. It won’t allow me to do anything, I have the recovery CD but can’t get passed that screen to use it. I think there is nothing wrong with your laptop and it displays PXE-E61 media test failure message because the hard drive pxe e61 is brand new and has not partition and file system. You can see the hard drive in the BIOS and this is good, it means the hard drive is detected. In order to boot the laptop from the recovery CD you have to change the boot order in the BIOS and make sure the DVD drive is listed first. Alternatively, you can press F12 key as soon as Toshiba logo appears on the screen. After that it will display the boot menu and you can pxe e61 media select the DVD drive. Here's one more trick. Press "C" key when Toshiba logo is displayed, it will boot the laptop directly from the CD-Rom without displaying the boot menu. Boot the laptop from the recovery disc and install the operating system. It should fix the problem. I hope it helps. 33 Responses Peter September 27, 2007 | Thank you for your help, one thing I forgot to mention was that I had to get an external DVD/CD rom. My internal one wasn't working, but the problem is that I can't get the external one to load. Is there a way to get my external DVD/CD ROM to work so I can do what you said. I could really use your help. Thank you again for your help. I do have the recovery disc but can't seem to get it to load. Laptop Freak September 29, 2007 | Peter, I forgot to mention was that I had to get an external DVD/CD rom. My internal one wasn't working, but the problem is that I can’t get the external one to load. OK, now I see your problem. You are trying to start recovery disc from the EXTERNAL drive. Sorry my friend but I think it's not going to work. You cannot boot your laptop from the external drive because the BIOS wasn't programmed this way, it just doesn't know how to "talk" to the external drive. Some newer laptop models has this capability but not older models. You'll have to find
it boots the operating system from the local storage devices such as the hard disk. When hard disk boot failure occurs, the computer will not boot up and a message saying “PXE-E61: Media Test Failure, Check Cable” appears. The error may also read “PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE-ROM” or “Boot Failure: System Halted.” This error message repeats each time one attempts to start up the computer and it restricts one's access to the hard disk data. Hard disk boot failure in PXE can happen for several reasons. The most common reason is physical hard disk failure due to a faulty or improperly connected hard disk. The error might also occur if a computer attempts to boot from a device and it cannot find the necessary boot files. The error can also appear because of incorrect BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) or CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) settings. The BIOS contains instructions about how the computer boots. The BIOS can only be updated or modified with BIOS updates. The CMOS contains the system settings and a CMOS battery powers it. The CMOS can be changed or modified by entering the CMOS setup. The setup for the BIOS and CMOS are the same, but the BIOS and CMOS on the motherboard are not the same. Below are steps to access the BIOS and CMOS to help solve the error. How to Find the Cause and Fix “PXE-E61 Media Test Failure, Check Cable” Error It is important to isolate the cause of the “PXE-E61 Media Test Failure, Check Cable” error and solve it. To do this, follow the steps below: A loose or improper hard disk cable connection can be the cause of the error. This typically happens if the hard disk has recently been installed or moved. Check all of the hard disk's cable connections before trying anything else to solve the error. Make sure that no other storage device is connected to the computer. If there is a storage device connected, remove it. When computer start up is being attempted, enter the BIOS to see if the hard disk has been set up correctly and detected in BIOS. To enter the BIOS, follow these steps: a. The key that must be pressed to enter the BIOS varies depending on the computer model. The key is most likely the Del key or one of the F keys. Many computers refer to this as Entering Setup and Setup is just another term used for the BIOS. b. Try setting one's BIOS to any safe default settings. That might fix the error. Verify that the boot options in CMOS are setup correctly. Follow these steps to do this: a. Enter the CMOS by pressing one of the following keys: F1, F2, Del, Esc, or
