just found a 2001-P New York State Quarter in my change that is in about AU condition and has both Doubled Die and Tripled Die Doubling on the Obverse. It has Doubled Die Doubling on "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "LIBERTY" and Tripled Die Doubling on "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the Date. There is also some extra layers of clading on the Obverse that apparently got stuck to the Die and came off on this coin in the Minting process. Would anyone venture to say what it might be worth!? State Quarter Errors are hot items these days and bring fairly nice premiums! Seeing that there are very few real Doubled Die Errors on the State Quarters much less Tripled Die Errors and one that has both, should be very collectible even in about AU condition. Let me know what you think. Thanks...Frank huntsman53, Jun 9, 2005 #1 + Quote Reply Daniel B likes this. Guest User Guest Log in or Sign up to hide this ad. NICK66 Coin Hoarder Can you post any pictures of this coin? NICK66, Jun 9, 2005 #2 + Quote Reply GDJMSP Numismatist Moderator Howdy Frank - Welcome to the Forum !! The minting process used for these coins prohibits doubled die coins from being produced - they use a single sqeeze now. So I suspect what you have is either mechanical doubling or die deterioration. But if you can post some pics - please do. GDJMSP, Jun 10, 2005 #3 + Quote Reply huntsman53 Supporter** NICK66 & GDJMSP, Thanks for the response! Can you advise on how to post pictures to the forum and I will do my best to get some pictures posted?! Thanks...Frank huntsman53, Jun 12, 2005 #4 + Quote Reply huntsman53 Supporter** GDJMSP, I know that the new Minting process (equipment) is supposed to prevent any Die Doubling but there are many 2001 through 2004 Lincoln Cents that have been authenticated and certified as Double Dies! If there are cents with Doubled Die doubling then it is reasonable to expect other denominations to have Doubled Die doubling as well.
