The size of this table in my database is around 429MB. I am running the following query. UPDATE wp_posts SET comment_status = 'open', ping_status = 'open' WHERE comment_status = 'closed'; And i am not able to update the Database Please help. Thanks. mysql wordpress share|improve this question asked Jan 28 '14 at 6:04 user2339174 33 Guessing your host has a query timeout set and you're mysql execution time limit exceeding it. Some hosts have extremely short timeouts, CloudFoundry's is 3 seconds. –Durandal Jan 28 '14 at 6:12 That is my issue I don't know how to change query timeout. –user2339174 Jan 28 '14 at 12:38 Usually it's not something they'll let you do. What you can do to get around it is break up your update statement into smaller chunks that won't timeout using some field on the table. You can use the date, or the primary key. wp_posts has an auto_increment primary key so you could break it up based on that. Run select max(id) from wp_posts to see how many posts there are total. Figure out a logical way to break them up, every 1000, or 2000 etc. Then run your update statement again but filter the id ie where id < 1000 then where (id >= 1000 and id < 2000) etc –Durandal Jan 28 '14 at 17:47 Thank you very much MagicMan you solved my problem. –user2339174 Jan 29 '14 at 6:53 I'll make it an answer and you can mark it correct so if other folks have the same issue they can easily see what the answer is. –Durandal Jan 30 '14 at 1:28 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vot

That error will only occur when we are killing long-running queries, either by hand or in an automated fashion. This bug is for Python only, y'all may clone for PHP if so desired. Comment 1 Tarek Ziadé (:tarek) 2011-01-11 13:09:09 PST Did you run into this problem ? if yes is there any log or way to reproduce it ? Comment 2 Richard Soderberg [:atoll] 2011-01-21 01:18:50 PST The only way I know to reproduce this problem is to send a really long SELECT to the server and then to go and administratively kill the query. I can work with you further on this to repro from a test PHP script if that would help? Comment 3 Tarek Ziadé (:tarek) 2011-05-24 05:55:49 PDT If you're able to sniff what happens when mysql kills the query in the TCP layer, I can even write a proxy-based test that will simulate this. We can then run it over the sync server to check that we get 503s everywhere Comment 4 Richard Soderberg [:atoll] 2011-06-06 15:25:51 PDT MySQL server sends a specific response to the client when "killed on server" occurs: ERROR 1317 (70100): Query execution was inter

Unfortunately, not here nor in forum thread did you provide enough info for anyone to start working on this report. Same as if I was to call TV repair shop with the description of problem "TV is not working". So, please, for a start, do write local test case and see if your local copy of MySQL server/connJava (latest) also fails. If it does, attach the said test case (along with connection string etc) to this report. Do add general and error log from MySQL server too. connector/Java has limited but sufficient built in debugging properties so you might check what's going on. Until such time all the necessary info is attached, none can work on this. Please refer to BugsDB for examples of good bug reports.
