We do that with the style and format of our responses. Here are five guidelines: Keep it conversational. When answering questions, write like you speak. Imagine you're explaining something to a trusted friend, using simple, everyday language. Avoid jargon and technical terms when possible. When no other word will do, explain technical terms in plain English. Be clear and state the answer right up front. Ask yourself what specific information the person really needs and then provide it. Stick to the topic and avoid unnecessary details. Break information down into a numbered or bulleted list and highlight the most important details in bold. Be concise. Aim for no more than two short sentences in a paragraph, and try to keep paragraphs to two lines. A wall of text can look intimidating and many won't read it, so break it up. Intuit recommends several solutions for this problem. The first solution may solve your problem, or you may need to try all of them to resolve the issue. For best results, perform the solutions in the order shown. Solution 1: Suppress the QuickBooks Desktop and the data file Press and hold the CTRL key while opening QuickBooks In the No Company Open window, open the QuickBooks file while holding the the ALT on your keyboard. This will open your QuickBooks file and will close all windows open in your data file. If you are still getting the same error, please proceed to solution 2. Solution 2: Try to open a sample file By opening a sample company file, you are testing if the problem possibly lies with your company file or the QuickBooks application. If a sample company file does not open and instead returns an error, it is an indication that the QuickBooks installation is damaged and should be repaire
2006, 8:45 pm My friend is running QB Pro 2006 and they are trying to move their company file to a network hard drive (which has been set up on every computer) to enable multi user (they tell me they have followed http://www.beansmart.com/quickbooks/having-a-little-problem-setting-up-multi-user-15292-.htm the instructions in the manual to the last step, but they're not that computer savvy) and they're running into a little problem. When they try to copy the folder they get an error message saying "access denied, please http://www.sevenforums.com/bsod-help-support/314057-bsod-new-w7-pro-x64-system-qbpro2011-office-small-biz-2007-a.html make sure file is not in use and then try again" but they tell me that they have completely shut down QB on both computers and nothing should be accessing the company folder. Is there some step they quickbooks error could have possibly missed? I don't have access to the manual from here so I can't really help them out. They need to look for a service running on that computer and terminating it. They then need to install QB on the server and open and host it there. I'm not 100% positive on all of this info, but I do know that there has been much chatter about this new hosting paradigm and hope this helps. You probably will have to do a little digging to find the service name, but all the info is available at QB.
