I used the "Send to Compressor" option directly from within FCPX. I have since exported a contained Quicktime file that is currently rendering in Compressor, so we'll see how it turns out. If it works, fine, but it should work the other way as well. Its a mystery why I was getting the error when sending the render to Compressor from within FCPX. Anyone else that has this issue, please share any solutions if you have them. Helpful

Tweaking with them did not help at all. Looking up on the Internet I found many others with the same problem, but none of the recommended solutions worked for me, so https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4654086?start=0&tstart=0 I had to look for my own! Long story short, here is what worked for me. Are you ready? Well the solution is: do not close Final Cut Pro X after having issued the Send to Compressor command and switched to Compressor! Apparently Compressor needs Final Cut Pro X still up and running in the background in order to be able to render successfully. http://marcoghislanzoni.com/blog/2012/06/29/solved-apple-compressor-fails-with-quicktime-error-50/ Folks with not enough RAM/CPU power may think to free up some memory by closing Final Cut Pro X once the Send the Compressor command has been issued (it was so for me, before I upgraded my Mac Book Pro to 8 GB of RAM). Closing Final Cut Pro X while Compressor still has to render/encode the movie causes it to fail with the cryptic QuickTime Error -50. Since I have been leaving FCPX open in the background, Compressor never failed once! Hope this helps! Simon Hi Ken, I have tried everything. I am trying to send a FCP project to Compressor, but it immediately reports: "Failed: Final Cut Pro generated an error or unexpectedly quit". http://www.kenstone.net/discussions/read.php?3,16497 FCP didn't quit, so FCP generated an error. I have trashed prefs, restarted the computer, opened a new project and copied the clips onto a new sequence. I opened a previous project on a https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aq-Q5FBnegc different internal drive and tried to compress, and it failed also. I have to get this done by tomorrow, does it sound like there is a solution somewhere? You have to provide information. --ken Reply Quote Re: FCP quicktime error 50 to Compressor Failed: FCP generated an error or... If that isn't what you need to know, where do I find the specific output codec FCP uses? One thing for sure, it fails as soon as I click on the second submit button Other info found: The inspector reports NTSC 4:3, 29.97, SD DVD Stream Usage, Ext.m2v, Jobs segmented Pixel aspect ratio: NTSC CCIR 601/DV, Bit rate: 6.0 DVD Studio Pro met-data enabled In the mean time, I am using a QT movie in DVDSP4 to get the job done. Not sure how hard that is. Thanks, hope you can get me back on track. Trig Reply Quote Re: FCP to Compressor Failed: FCP generated an error or... (September 13, 2009 03:55PM) Ken Stone Admin Try it this way. Quit Compressor. Select the Sequence in the Browser or in the Timeline, set In and Out points. File > Export > QT (Not with Conversion). Make Self Contained, Use Current Settings, Do Not Recompress all frames. Drop the QT export into Compressor. --ken Reply Quote Re: FCP to Compressor Faile
