10 years ago #1780 closed defect (fixed) Rate Limiting Error Reported by: Keckes@aol.com Owned by: nobody Milestone: Component: Service/AIM Version: 0.84 Severity: major Keywords: Rate Limiting Error Cc: adoyle83@… Patch Status: Description (last modified by boredzo) Status of this issue: Issue fixed with 0.85.1 and later. While using Adium 0.84 under OS https://trac.adium.im/ticket/1780 X 10.4.2, I get the message: "Rate limiting error. The last action you attempted could not be performed because you are over the rate limit. Please wait 10 seconds and try again." This occurs shortly after I connect with an account prior to me sending anything, viewing away messages, clicking anything, etc. Once this message pops up none of my Buddy List away messages update and, at times, I cannot send messages to others. Only solution is to wait for your rate limit to go back down. comment:5 Changed 11 years ago by anonymous same thing happens to me, i just switched to the beta (.85) and have never had this problem before comment:6 Changed 11 years ago by anonymous I'm using .83 and getting this message also. Perhaps AOL changed something on their servers? comment:7 Changed 11 years ago by dave*at*mudsite(dot)com What is happening, is that the standard AOL AIM client connects, and just gets information weather or not a contact is away or online. Gaim (adium included) when it finds that a contact is away, gets their away message to display with mouse over. If your contact list is large, I don't have an exact number, but AOL will complain that you have reached your rate limit. From that point on, gaim (and adium) never do away message lookups. So it appears that Contact A still has the same away message, but when I get-info, the client re-pulls the away message, and displays it. There should be a better catch in Gaim/Adium to know if we hit that rate limit, then wait 2 minutes or so, then go back to where it was. Hopefully someone who knows the code better than I could patch that. comment
