responding. January 15, 2014 By Gareth Gudger 7 Comments 4 Shares Share Tweet +1 Share RedditI ran into this issue recently while trying to make a Remote Access VPN work on a Cisco ASA https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/11390361/vpn-client-fails-reason-412 5505 firewall. The VPN had been working at one point but was rarely used. When the end user tried to use it again they kept getting the following error. Secure VPN connection terminated locally by the Client. Reason 412. The remote peer is no longer responding. Now this error could occur for many reasons. Including a firewall on the client side that https://supertekboy.com/2014/01/15/cisco-vpn-reason-412-the-remote-peer-is-no-longer-responding/ is blocking the necessary UDP or TCP ports, or, an unstable internet connection, such as a mobile connection. But in my particular case it was actually a configuration issue on the firewall itself. On this particular firewall there was a NAT statement that was translating everything from interface to a server on the private network. The syntax looked something like this. static (inside, outside) tcp interface DALEK-KHAN mask 255.255.255.255 I'm not really a big fan of the interface syntax. The interface syntax is specified when you want to use the IP attached to the outside interface for PAT (Port Address Translation). I prefer to use a dedicated public IP for my Cisco device and keep address translation on their own IPs. However, for various reasons, whether it be cost prohibitive, or, limited provider plans, there is a definite need for this syntax. The problem with our code was that every TCP port was being translated from the external interface to an internal server. Even the ports required for VPN connectivity! This was the cause of our error. Removing this NAT statement, and replacing it with just the PAT statements that the serv
Error 5: No hostname exists for this connection entry. Unable to make vpn connection. Error 56: The Cisco Systems, Inc. VPN Service has not been started. Please start this service and try http://helpdesk.ugent.be/vpn/en/faq_cisco.php?id=412 again. Secure VPN Connection terminated locally by the client. Reason 403: Unable to contact the security gateway. Secure VPN Connection terminated locally by the Client. 412: The remote peer is no longer responding. A firewall is a possible cause. Try disabling the firewall and then setting up a VPN. If the VPN can be established well now, you need to adjust the settings of the firewall. Another solution, and a very specific reason 412 one (only for this error message!) is to download and import the ugvpn.pcf config file. - Click 'Save'. - Save in: select Desktop (easy to find). - In the windows Download Complete, select 'Close'. - In the (Cisco) VPN Client (via 'Start - Programmes - Cisco Systems VPN Client - VPN Client'), remove the existing connection entry (UGent) and then click "import" under "connection entries" in the menu. - In the opening secure vpn connection dialogue window select Desktop first and then the file 'UGent.pcf' - Click 'Open' and 'OK' to close the window mentioning the import was succesful. Secure VPN connection terminated locally by the client. Reason 413: User authentication failed Reason 421: Failed to establish a connection to your ISP. Cisco VPN Client displays the message "Reason 422": Lost contact with the security gateway. Check your network connection". The connection to the RoamNet VPN Gateway is no longer available. Secure VPN Connection terminated locally by the Client. Reason 429: Unable to resolve server address. Secure VPN Connection terminated locally by the Client. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. (error when installing Cisco) Error 28000 (error when installing Cisco because there is still (a part of) an old installation present on the system) When installing Cisco, a 'DNE error' occurs and you are asked to restart Windows XP When starting the VPN connection, the computer shuts down (or generates a blue screen).
