We have a strange problem here where sometimes remote desktop to our fileserver just stops working. When you try and log on you get prompted for rdp this computer can't connect to the remote computer the username/password then a connection is attempted but is not sucessful. There are no error messages displayed, it simply just doesn't connect. The solution we've found is to turn off and turn back on Remote Desktop, but i'd like to establish the cause if possible. The server is running Windows Server 2003 Standard R2 with SP2. Has anybody else experience this? Cheers Adam. I can connect fine exactly once, but all subsequent attempts fail until the remote machine is rebooted. I seem to authenticate properly, but the RDP logon dialog disappears after showing, "Configuring remote session..." for a few seconds. No errors or other useful info is written either to my screen or the Event Logs of the two machines involved. I've tried disabling remote sound as others have suggested, with no success. I'm still http://superuser.com/questions/392114/remote-desktop-fails-with-no-error investigating a solution, but would appreciate any thoughts. Fortunately, I can reboot the box remotely w/o causing any problems, but this is a less than ideal workaround. windows-7 remote-desktop share|improve this question asked Feb 20 '12 at 21:32 Duane 4116 Have you tried closing the connection differently? Also do you have physical access to the machine and have you tried logging in locally after the RDP session? –MBraedley Feb 20 '12 at 22:05 Yes, I've tried just X-ing out of the RDP session as well as start-> disconnect. And yep, I've been able to log in locally after an unsuccessful RDP attempt. –Duane Mar 13 '12 at 23:06 When the problem occurs again - and you have some folders being shared from the remote computer also - can you please try and connect to these with the same username/password and let us know if this works or not? –Steve Rathbone Jun 14 '12 at 9:59 It might be worth trying to rdp in with a new, temp user account and see if this works or not also... –Steve Rathbone Jun 14 '12 at 10:02 1 Maybe remote computer goes into hibernate mode? –Ishikawa Yoshi Jul 30 '12 at 7:26 | show 1 more comment 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 3 down vote Can you check the event log of the machine to which you

How I fixed the Remote Desktop No Error Message Problem I realized that I wanted to try the vertical options that my 21' LCD monitor had. That is when I knew that's when I started having problems. I figured that Remote Desktop was unable to tell my PC that it was flipped vertically, and not horizontally. So rather than settling with a horizontal monitor and conforming to my problem, I decided to update the drivers. When I updated my Nvidia GeForce 7800 to the latest drivers and rebooted. Boom! I was able to connect remotely from another PC. So there you go, of you guys are having issues try updating your video drivers. I've checked the event log on the problematic server, but there is no clue as to what can be the problem. I've also tried to reboot this server, but there is no improvment.
