the top Why does a Remote Desktop Redirected Printer Doc appear every time I connect to Windows Server 2003 SBS? up vote 6 down vote favorite I've run into a weird, persistent issue regarding a remote desktop connection. Every time I successfully log into a server running Windows Server 2003 SBS, without taking any further action, after a few seconds a print job spontaneously appears on my machine, titled "Remote

Desktop Redirected Printer Doc". The document is 4K, datatype RAW, processor "WinPrint". I've heard of people running into this issue before, but can't seem to hunt down a coherent solution. It's a minor annoyance, but I get annoyed when Windows complains about a print job that, as far as I know, came from nowhere. Any thoughts on why this would occur and how I could prevent it from happening? remote-desktop windows-server-2003 network-printer share|improve this question asked Sep 1 '11 at 19:52 Jim Dagg 133117 1 Does this happen with more than the one server? Does redirected printing work otherwise? What have you tried so far? –Ƭᴇcʜιᴇ007 Sep 1 '11 at 20:00 This only happens with one particular server; redirected printing does not seem to work for me at all, though admittedly I hadn't tried it before you asked. I don't really have a need to perform redirected printing; I'm mostly monitoring logs and such on that server. –Jim Dagg Sep 7 '11 at 16:55 1 This happens to me all the time! I noticed my computer was booting slow, i think this is why! http://ow.ly/i/irAm and http://ow.ly/i/irAx –bittersweetryan Oct 3 '11 at 12:27 This happens to me on every printer device

Options -> Local Resources -> Printers checkbox should be unchecked. I don't know the source of problem but this help in my case to avoid annoying 'Redirected Docs' in printing queue. BTW, if you need to redirect local printer into RDP session I'd recommend you to use third-party software, like Printer for Remote Desktop Report • #2 BurkeJax March 21, 2013 at 06:27:27 That did resolve my issue. But what makes it strange: I RDP into two remote machines. They both had the Printers option checked under local resources, and I get the Redirect Printer message when I connect to one, but not the other. We will randomly (several times https://groups.google.com/d/topic/microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs/MnOL2Ktz7w8 an hour) receive a Printer notification about a "remote desktop redirected printer doc" print job. This document is blank, and randomly appears. Setting the default printer to a PDF or OneNote printer results in constant notifications about where the document is to be printed to. Setting the default print queue to paused results in a pile of these documents. Speaking of the Devil I was just notified about remote desktop another one. Under the print queue this is what is listed: Document Name: Remote Desktop Redirected Printer Doc Status: Blank Owner: me Pages: N/A Size: Blank Submitted: just now and every 10 or so minutes since the last time I cleared the queue Port: Blank My coworker and I are running Windows 7 Pro x64. We are connecting to a mix of 2003 and 2008 R2 servers. I have changed in RDP settings to not redirect the client printers. I have removed printer drivers and reinstalled remote desktop redirected (not that I thought it would help as the issue jumps to the printer now set to default)... I am honestly at a loss and could use some thoughts. (Also, these machines are BRAND new, just received them from Dell not 4 weeks ago) skummer101, Jul 5, 2011 #1 mantis484 Joined: Feb 24, 2009 Messages: 27 Hi, How large is your network? Do you share your printers from your PC? You are remoting to the servers, does anyone else other than the two of you remote to these servers? Have you noticed if it only happens on one server? Are there any services on the servers that are scheduled to print reports of any kind. mantis484, Jul 11, 2011 #2 skummer101 Thread Starter Joined: Jul 5, 2011 Messages: 2 Anyone have any "relevant" ideas? The issue seems to happen to machines with OneNote 2010 (might happen in older versions too). The issue starts when you RDP into a Server, the culprits here are our 4 RemoteApp farm servers whom have Office 2010 installed but do not have OneNote. Once you sign in, you get a prompt from OneNote asking where you would like to save the "printed" file, after that if you disable OneNote or select an alternate printer, the "Remote Desktop Redirected Printer Doc" starts spamming the spooler. I have tried removing OneNoe, the entire Office Package; but once it the issue has started, it never quits. skummer101, Jul 15, 2011 #3 This thread has been Locked and is not open
