created a directory hello_git. In this directory I created a file hello_git.py which prints out a "Hello git!" message. Then I made hello_git my current directory in the terminal and entered the following commands one after another in that directory: git init git add hello_git.py git commit -m 'first commit' git remote add origin git@github.com:githubaccountname/hello_git.git When I enter the command git push origin master I get asked: Enter passphrase for key '/home/myusername/.ssh/id_rsa': When I enter my github check permissions passphrase (which authenticates succesfully using ssh -T git@github.com) I get this: ERROR: Repository not found. fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly I don't know if this helps, but: git remote -v returns: origin git@github.com:githubaccountname/hello_git.git (fetch) origin git@github.com:githubaccountname/hello_git.git (push) I have looked into answers of similar posts but nothing seems to work: fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly while pushing to git repository Github ERROR: Repository not found. fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly GitHub - How to resolve this issue of preventing push to origin? git github share|improve this question edited Sep 11 '12 at 20:49 asked Jun 6 '12 at 20:47 Bentley4 3,23694494 3 I think hello_gitty would be a much better name for a sandbox/testing repo! :p –ThiefMaster♦ Jun 6 '12 at 20:49 1 Does the repository actually exist on github? –Eric Jun 6 '12 at 20:50 There is no repository of it on github, I thought it autocreated that for me. And your password should be your GitHub account password. You actually can set your username directly in the remote url, in order for Git to request only your password: cd C:\Users\petey_000\rails_projects\first_app git remote set-url origin https://pete@github.com/pete/first_app And you need to create the fist_app repo on GitHub first: make sure to create it completely empty, or, if you create it with an initial commit (including a README.md, a license file and a .gitignore file), then do a git pull first, before making your git push. share|improve this answer answered Aug 16 '14 at 5:55 VonC 626k19018011887 thanks, that fixed it, I thought I had the repository set up, but

I can successfully repository not use features like git pull-request These are the versions I use (hub is installed via brew): $ git version [ruby-1.9.3-p194] > git version 1.7.9 > hub version 1.10.1 GitHub member mislav commented Jul 12, 2012 Try running git --noop clone orgname/reponame This will output the command that it would normally run. If you run the command in the output, and it still doesn't work, then your problem is probably not repository not found in hub, but elsewhere. luxerama commented Jul 12, 2012 Yeah so the issue seems to be when using SSH. If I use HTTPS it works just fine. Noop with SSH: $ git --noop clone orgname/reponame > git clone git://github.com/orgname/reponame.git Noop with HTTPS: $ git --noop clone orgname/reponame > git clone https://github.com/orgname/reponame.git GitHub member mislav commented Jul 12, 2012 Doh, I should have known — private repos can't be cloned over git: protocol. You need to use git clone -p orgname/reponame Please refer to git help hub for the list of such possible flags. mislav closed this Jul 12, 2012 luxerama commented Jul 12, 2012 Thanks man, your help is v. much appreciated. rmsy commented Sep 22, 2013 Is there any way to somehow configure Hub to do this automatically, so I don't need to think about whether or not a repository is private, and add that flag? Obviously not a huge deal, but would be helpful if that's somehow possible. GitHub member mislav commented Sep 22, 2013 @rmsy You're right. Reopened the issue. I guess we could hit the API before clone to see whether the repo exists. It would add a small overhead to each clone but I think the convenience is worth it. Thoughts? Wanna ta

I could clearly access .git folder via any web browser. fatal: repository ‘http:///path/to/project/folder/' not found Steps to correct this error: log into your git remote server navigate to your project folder run git update-server-info On client side, when running git clone instruction, type in path up to .git folder. That means in case repository was not create as bare repository, run: git clone http:///path/to/project/folder/.git This time it should be successful. note: it is recommended to create a bare git repository, instead of regular repository, on server side when remote folder will act as central repository for all clients (i.e. where no direct modification will be performed, everything gets updated via commits) Publishing to git repository When publishing to remote repository, following error may occur: error: Cannot access URL http://www.example.com/git/projects/example/, return code 22 In that case, move to project folder on server side and run: git config http.receivepack true sources http://stackoverflow.com/questions/19698352/cant-clone-git-repos-via-http-info-refs-not-found http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5540883/whats-the-practical-difference-between-a-bare-and-non-bare-repository http://www.parallelsymmetry.com/howto/git.jsp Post a Comment Your email is never published nor shared.
