Refer to the
Linux Cifs Mount Error 11 Resource Temporarily Unavailable
mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g.man mount.cifs)
Do you have another cifs share mounted from the same remote machine (and possibly as the same user), e.g.: //111.222.333.444/other_share /mnt/other_mount_directory If you do, try: ls /mnt/other_mount_directory This is due to the fact that the other share may be in state DISCONNECTED: \\111.222.333.444\other_share Uses: 1 Type: NTFS DevInfo: 0x20 Attributes: 0x700ff
PathComponentMax: 255 Status: 3 type: DISK DISCONNECTED A simple ls of the other share could just allow the mount to work, when tried aagin. ls /mnt/other_mount_directory
mount -t cifs //111.222.333.444/share /mnt/mount_directory -o "username=username, password=xxxxxx" To debug you can enable debugging on CIFS: echo 1 > /proc/fs/cifs/cifsFYI Then try your mount and check the debug info: cat /proc/fs/cifs/DebugData Ironically, even if the other mount being in state DISCONNECTED and the ls and mount work, you may find that the info in /proc/fs/cifs/DebugData still reports type: DISK DISCONNECTED for both shares... but they work. Do not forget to disable debugging: echo "" > /proc/fs/cifs/cifsFYI Thank you Submitted by Anonymous on Thu, 10/06/2011 - 18:10. I had exactly this problem and the work-around of doing an ls on the other filesystem works great. Anybody have a more permanent fix?
stephenyOctober 14th, 2008, 10:40 AMI have bought a Iomega Home Network Hard Drive and installed it. It is reachable from my wife's XP laptop and from my Ubuntu (Gnome) machine via Places-Connect to Server-Windows Share. I would like to include it in my fstab but I cannot seem to be able to mount the drive. I have tried the following from the command line (with and without username and password):- sudo mount -t cifs //192.168.0.2/public /media/share but sometimes I get the error "mount error 11 = Resource temporarily unavailable" and other times it appears to work but there is nothing in /media/share and when I do:- sudo umount /media/share I get the error "umount: /media/share: not mounted" Any help gratefully received. madmaxnjJanuary 2nd, 2009, http://www.of-networks.co.uk/miscellaneous/cifs-mount-error-11-resource-temporarily-unavailable 06:28 PM352 views and no replies. I have the same network drive that I'm trying to get working with Intrepid. I've 'heard' about the great linux online community and support. Now that I'm entrenched I don't really see it. A lot of people have problems, very few people have help. kevindtJanuary 2nd, 2009, 07:51 PMI have had the same problem with mounting my Buffalo NAS on 192/168.0.147, but have just solved it by the following steps: 1. sudo mkdir /media/share. 2. https://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-947279.html I needed to install smbfs (done via synaptics) which includes the mount.cifs command. 3. Then it mounted perfectly with the command "sudo mount.cifs //192.168.0.147/share /media/share" Kevin. kevindtJanuary 2nd, 2009, 08:09 PMI have had the same problem with mounting my Buffalo NAS on 192/168.0.147, but have just solved it by the following steps: 1. sudo mkdir /media/share. 2. I now have a /media/share drive (which wasn't there before), but its empty. I think this is a different issue that I'm having with the iomega home network drive. When I can see it under Places-Network (I have to have my XP box on to see it, but thats another story), I can see the folders, but no contents. Once I figure the other stuff out, I guess I can out how to put the "sudo mount.cifs //192.168.0.147/share /media/share" in a startup batch script (or the linux equivalent). madmaxnjJanuary 4th, 2009, 03:00 AMSpoke too soon, nothing happened. Momentary lapse of reason the first time around. I now get a prompt for the password to the share (which is nothing), and when I hit enter at the prompt it just sits there and nothing happens. It doesn't even return to the command line prompt, it just die

Mount Error 11 = Resource temporily unavailable (CIFS fails to mount Windows network share) Posted on 2015-02-20 Linux Networking Linux 12 Comments 408 Views Last Modified: 2015-02-24 A couple of months I setup mounting a windows file share (Server 2008 R2) on a couple of Centos 5.9 machines using method 4 outlined here - http://wiki.centos.org/TipsAndTricks/WindowsShares. It worked fine for months, but now an issue has come up on a couple of the linux machines. The error is "Mount error 11 = Resource temporarily unavailable". At first I thought it was just because the windows file share it was connected to was restarted for security updates, but restarting or remounting continues to fail with the same error message. No one appears to have said they have changed anything on the linux machines (I very loosely manage them) and nothing has changed with network topology or server (other than the monthly patch Tuesday updates). I've dug through many articles and haven't found anything that works yet. I can still get to file server by manually browsing to it so I don't think it's a networking issue, but related to cifs and stale mount that won't clear. Any ideas? The cifs share in auto mounted /etc/fstab and fails at boot so that would eliminate other shares causing the error. 0 Question by:futureman0 Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google 12 Comments LVL 9 Overall: Level 9 Linux 2 Message Expert Comment by:Rob_Je
