solution like cleaning up the yum's DB and it didnt solve it and in the end i fixed the problem by cleaning the RPM's DB and rebuild it again. $ sudo rm -rf /var/lib/__db* $ sudo rpm --rebuilddb $ reboot # i had to reboot to solve it as thread died in berkeley db library rpmdb well. Edit: Ok so it looks like I had som bad ram in my system that caused this - I found a site that told me to do this: rm -f /var/lib/rpm/__db* rpm –rebuilddb yum clean all I did this but now when I try something like yum install firefox it pulls in a ton of already installed packages.
