IPCONFIG reports an error because the wired hardware is enabled, but it can't get the media status since the Network Connection (driver) has been disabled.This issue is known to affect at least some Intel wired network adapters with Windows XP drivers dated 2006 and later. For example, disconnected Intel PRO/1000 MT Mobile wired network adapter in a ThinkPad T41, driver e1000325.sys:Code:VERSION DATE SOURCE RESULT6.4.16.36 (06/13/2003) Original Windows XP driver Cable Unplugged7.2.17.101 (10/26/2004) Lenovo Software Installer Cable Unplugged8.7.1.0 (04/27/2006) Microsoft/Windows Update Auto Disable8.7.9.0 (10/24/2006) Lenovo T41 driver download Auto Disable(IPCONFIG works with Cable Unplugged, but not with Auto Disable.) I replaced the network card, but the new one does the same thing. When I enter IPCONFIG, XP shows this error (in standard and safe mode): Internal error occurred Request not supported Unable to query host name If I start the system with a boot cd the PC runs fine, so the problem seems to be in the XP installation. I tried: uninstalling how to run and reinstalling the network card in the Device Manager disabling and reenabling the card netsh int ip reset netsh winsock reset catalog and a couple of "reset" programs (WinsockxpFix.exe, etc) with no luck. Is there any way to fix it without reinstalling XP? It sounds like the TCP stack is screwed up. Additional information: Unable to Query Host. I am running XP Sp2. This is a clients machine, so I don't know if something happened recently. Although I did have a slight problem with the disk. I've tried pretty much everything in the suggestions. I've tried To untick TCP, and reinstall it. I tried netsh winsock reset I tried Microsoft's suggestion of resetting the tcp/ip stack: netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt I checked and I do indeed have a tcpip.sys in system32\drivers. I tried to reinstall tcp by pointint to nettcpip.inf. I tried to uninstall the net card.
