38099 in reference to Bug NIM011135. The error message shown in this article did not exactly match the message I was getting, but I applied the patch anyway. Unfortunately, it did not seem to have an effect. Different problem. I also found article 38564. This error description seemed a lot closer. I followed the instructions to reset my default programs. This did seem to help. The frequency of toolbox script error this error decreased dramatically, but it would still occur on a seemingly random basis. My assumption was some kind of locking issue between ArcGIS and some other program as article 33792 suggested.Over the last few weeks, however, I started to notice a pattern. It seemed to occur after I viewed the Item Description from the ArcCatalog window in ArcMap. Then, a few days ago, another instructor contacted me and wanted to know if I had resolved this issue. He said that it was showing up in class and really annoying him. At that point, I decided to test my theory. I opened ArcMap, viewed some metadata, tried to run a script tool, and there it was: An error has occurred in the script on this page. I closed ArcMap, repeated the process, and same thing. We were elated to finally know the trigger. Search on GeoNet Submit to ArcGIS Ideas Bug: Internet Explorer Script Errors are generated when running any Geoprocessing tool from ArcToolbox on some systems that implement Folder Redirection Description On some systems that implement Folder Redirection and Roaming Profiles, an Internet Explorer Script error is generated when running any Geoprocessing tool in ArcToolbox. The error is similar to the screen shot below:The error usually appears three times, then the tool opens successfully. Workaround For version 9.x and earlier, use the following steps.1. Close ArcMap and ArcCatalog.2. Download the following compressed ZIP file: ver9x.zip.3. Unzip the contents of the ZIP file to the desktop or a desired location on the hard drive.4. In Windows Explorer, navigate to the Stylesheets folder in the ArcGIS installation folder. We recommend installing the latest version of Internet Explorer that is available for your Operating System. If you are already running arcgis 10 arctoolbox the lastest version, try setting it as your default Internet browser. If you still get blank toolboxes, you could try uninstalling and re-installing Internet Explorer, details of which can be found on the Microsoft Internet Explorer website.Another common fault relating to this issue is the width of the Help pane in the tool dialog becoming too wide, masking the tool's user interface.
