Remove Redirected Printers Server 2008
I have tried to stop spool service, but theni can't get in to "Print Server Properties", where i can find the print drivers installed. Is it because i choose "Remove driver and driver package"? Or is it because the driver file are the same for for the old driver and the HP universal driver? Please help... I've ran into this issue before and was unable to remove the printer until I found the offending machine, stopped the service, and removed the jobs (which were from months prior) from the local spool\printers folder. 2 Mace OP LarryG. Sep 3, 2015 at 8:12 UTC Did you clear all the files from the spooler folder? %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\spool\PRINTERS At least, that's where it used to be... I guess I'm not positive it's still there in 2012R2 --edit looks like someone else said this while I was typing and beat me to it :) 1 Cayenne OP alabamr Sep 3, 2015 at 8:13 UTC With stuck printers, I usually have to stop the spooler, then start the spooler and immediately try to delete the printer while it is starting. Usually takes me a few tries, but once you get the timing down it should delete the printer. 1 Poblano OP Tyson3790 Sep 3, 20
Smartphones Fun Stuff Search site Fix for Cannot Remove or Delete Network Printer in Windows If you work at an office, you probably have several printers added to your computer http://www.online-tech-tips.com/computer-tips/cannot-remove-or-delete-network-printer/ that are network printers, i.e. not connected directly to your computer. However, as you move around in the company or printers die out, that list has to be cleaned up every once in a while. http://superuser.com/questions/359548/reliable-procedure-tool-for-removing-print-drivers-in-windows-7-domain-environm Sometimes when you try to delete a network printer, you may get a message from Windows saying “Cannot delete network printer” and that’s it! Great, so now you have useless printers clogging up your server 2008 printer list. Luckily, there is a way to remove any network printer from your computer via the registry. Note that you will have to be an Administrator in order to do this. Before you make any changes, make sure to read my post on backing up the Windows Registry. If you prefer not to mess with the registry, there is another possible solution that I list below that could also error deleting printer fix the problem, so be sure to scroll down. Remove Network Printers from Windows via Registry Editor Step 1: Click on Start, Run and then type in regedit and press Enter. This will open the registry editor. Step 2: Navigate to the following key in the registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER – Printers - Connections Here you should now see a list of all network printers with the server name first, then a comma, and then the name of the actual printer. Go ahead and click on the printer in the left menu and press the Delete button or right-click and choose Delete. Unfortunately, that’s not all! You also have to delete the printer from one more location in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE – SYSTEM – CurrentControlSet – Control – Print – Providers - LanMan Print Services – Servers - Printers Now under the servers key, you should be able to expand it and see the name of the print server that actually hosts the printer you want to delete. Go ahead and expand the print server key and delete the printer from the list. Now close the registry editor and reboot your computer. The undeletable network printer should now be gone! Note that the method above is just for network printers. If you

This is a domain environment and drivers are pulled from a print server. I've had occasion to need to do this on a user's system running Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit. These procedures don't work: Removing the printer from Devices and Printers (doesn't remove driver obviously). Doing the above, going into Server Properties, and attempting to remove the driver (fails with a "driver in use" error). Opening an empty mmc, adding the Print Management snap-in, and attempting to do the above (also fails with a "driver in use" error). Doing sc stop spooler and sc start spooler before doing both of the above. The printer is not visible in Device Manager. It's a shared network printer so maybe that has something to do with it not being there. Now I know it's possible to remove drivers with the spooler service stopped and then going into the spool directory, as well as deleting registry entries. That's dangerous and I might not get everything Windows considers part of the driver. I'm asking if a tool exists to do this where I can just select the driver in question and it be removed. NOTE: I am remoted into the system in question via RDP. win
