As there was lots of spam on the site already I clicked the button to check all comments already on server error 404 the site for spam. This seemed to be working, but after a while I started getting a 500 error when in my admin section. Now I get the internal server error throughout my admin section if Akismet is activated. I've switched debug mode on and can see it's because there's too much memory being used. I have manually deleted the files, and that sorts the problem.

The issue is, when I reinstall the plugin I get the 500 error back again. How can I stop the process running and start over? Usually Akismet doesn't cause such problems, though in case of a lot of spam comments it might be possible. The "500 Internal Error" though is by nature quite undefined and it doesn't explain much so it's quite fortunate that you managed to check logs to find that's the memory limit issue. Most likely, adding the following line to the wp-config.php file will help: define('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '256M'); If there already is a similar line you your wp-config.php file then please increase the memory limit value ("256M" in example above) and give it a try. If it still doesn't help, you may need to increase the PHP memory limit. Here's a handy guide on how to do this: https://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/increase-memory-limit/ I hope that helps! There are many FTP clients, but we’re going to use FileZilla for the purpose of this demonstration. Go to FileZilla’s homepage, and click Download FileZilla Client. Click the green Download FileZilla Client button if the site is recommending your exact operating system. If it’s not, click the Show Additional Download Options link beneath the green button and download the version that’s appropriate for your operating system. 5 years, 7 months ago Hi guys I'm facing a big problem after updating my wordpress from 3.0.4 to 3.0.5. With buddypress active (version 1.2.7), I don't have access to "edit.php?post_type=page", so I can't modify my pages. I get a 500 Internal server error (CHMOD for edit.php is default 644) But, I have access to "wp-admin/edit.php" so I can manage my post. I can't find any information about this problem.
