The Service Cannot Be Started Either Because It Is Disabled Windows 10
voted up and rise to the top Event ID 1030/1058 causing DNS and Group Policy errors up vote 1 down vote favorite I've discovered an on-going problem on our Windows Server 2003 domain where some clients are unable to access the UNC path using our root FQDN (we'll call it primary.org). This causes some interesting issues: - I can access our mail server via \mail but not the service cannot be started either because it is disabled windows 8 via \mail.primary.org - Logon scripts won't run, because \primary.org\SYSVOL can't be accessed - No server will respond if I try to access via the FQDN - sql.primary.org, web.primary.org etc. A few months ago we got a new router and changed our IP scheme (figured it was a good time to a project we've been wanting to do for a long time). Everything seems to work, except this DNS issue. I've done quite a bit of Googling, read several threads on Experts Exchange and other tech forums/resources and reading on eventid.net which gave me some ideas, all of which are outlined below. I've tried re-creating the Reverse DNS entry for primary.org, adding primary.org to a user's HOSTS file (which got me into the network browser, but SYSVOL still locked me out), removing my ISP's DNS servers from the GC DC server, running dcdiag /fix, ipconfig /registerdns, gpupdate /force and replacing the default Group Policy object with a new one. ANY thoughts would be very much appreciated. Diagnosing and repairing Events 1030 and 1058 Approved Article by ChiefIT On 2009-07-17 Views: 21,608 42,310 Points Let's say you are going through your http://serverfault.com/questions/40185/event-id-1030-1058-causing-dns-and-group-policy-errors server's event viewer logs, under START>>Control Pannel>>Administrative Tools>>Event Viewer>>system logs and you see a lot of errors saying: --Event ID 1030- Windows cannot query for the list of Group Policy objects.... --Event ID 1058 - Windows cannot access the file gpt.ini for GPO.... Well, events 1030 and 1058 are very generic errors and can be caused by one of many different reasons. I often see questions at Experts Exchange on how to overcome https://www.experts-exchange.com/articles/1073/Diagnosing-and-repairing-Events-1030-and-1058.html these events. I don't have all the answers, but have helped out a lot of people diagnose and fix these events. Since this is a frequently asked question with a bunch of different fixes, I hope to steer you in the right direction on how to troubleshoot and fix your error with this article. ABOUT GROUP POLICIES: Without going into too much detail, Group policy objects, when created, are basically: 1) saved within the Sysvol folder of the Domain Controller (DC); 2) then replicated as a DFS (Distributive File shares) using FRS (File Replication Service), or DFSR (Distributive File Share Replication) between domain servers using DNS as the communications protocol; 3) then like all DFS (Distributed File Shares) shares are distributed out using NetBIOS. If you run into a problem within one of these three stages, you will run into event log errors 1030 and 1058. These two events are just symptoms, not the problem. So, if you get into the roots of the three stages a number of different problems can cause your errors. The number of different possibilities makes these errors generic. A list of potential root problems, a guide on how to troubleshoot your problem, and the list of some known fixes are outlined below. HERE IS A LIST OF POTENTIAL PROBLEMS THA
Group Policy "The Processing of Group Policy failed. Windows attempted to read the file \\domain\sysvol\domain\policies\{xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx}\gpt.ini from adomaincontroller http://itcalls.blogspot.com/2011/11/troubleshooting-event-id-1058-group.html and was notsuccessful." I passed by this error lately with severalenvironmentsrunning Windows 2008 or 2008R2 Domain controllers. The key element in resolving this issue is to determine http://www.justskins.com/forums/group-policy-error-1030-a-104406.html which group policy is causing this problem. When you install GPMC you get a sample folder full of very useful scripts that make use of GPMC COM service cannot interfaces, The Script we are looking for is the DumpGPOInfo.wsf. For some reason Windows 2008 doesn't include this folder and you will have to download it manually from the following link http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=14536 After downloading and installing the Sample scripts, use the above mentioned file to get the name of the GPO generating the service cannot be above error. Cscript DumpGPOInfo.wsf {xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx} This will give you the friendly name of the GPO. You may delete, rename……….etc the GPO from the Group Policy Management Console. In my case I just enabled/disabled one setting and it worked fine and I was able to recreate the GPT.ini file back. 6 Comments Comments 6 comments: eduardo matriz Says: November 13, 2012 at 10:43 AM Hi, I am very interesting your post in you blog 'cause I have the same problem and need to fix.
