to know what the hell it is, since a google search for BASFND turns up nothing (as does a technet search)... Any ideas? skay Ars Scholae Palatinae Registered: Feb 12, 2005Posts: 609 Posted: Wed Apr 10, 2002 1:18 pm Maybe you could look at the services in the registry to see if there's a path to where it thinks the file is? That might at least tell you where it is supposed to be installed. There are registry entries in CurrentControlSet, CurrentControlSet001, and CurrentControlSet002 that read:quote:[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_BASFND]"NextInstance"=dword:00000001[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_BASFND\0000]"Service"="BASFND""Legacy"=dword:00000001"ConfigFlags"=dword:00000000"Class"="LegacyDriver""ClassGUID"="{8ECC055D-047F-11D1-A537-0000F8753ED1}""DeviceDesc"="BASFND"The ClassGUID is the same on all the items LEGACY_(suchandsuch)... This is driving me up a wall. 5 posts Ars Technica

Unanswered question This question has not been service control answered yet. I upgraded the IBM Director Agent to 5.20 on x235 servers which runs Windows 2003 operating system without any problems. However, my users noticed that two Windows services will not run: BASFND and Broadcom AFF IP Monitoring v3.0.1 The Event Logs display the following error messages. The service control manager BASFND service failed to start due to the following error The system cannot find the file specified The Broadcom ASF IP Monitoring service v.301 service failed to start due to the following error The system cannot find the file specified Does anyone have any ideas what software these services are associated with? How do I resolve the problem Log in to reply. This is the accepted answer. ASF stands for Alert Standard Format and is a management standard for providing hardware management without requiring a specific service processor, such as IBM's RSA or ISMP (x235 is an ISMP box). The ASF services use software from Broadcom.
