the JetDirect firmware and the printers are still getting the same error, it'll be fine for 1/2 day or so, then it'll error out. Any Suggestions, HP's support is not much help Respond to this 1 we had a rogue dhcp server on the network that caused this error. by Anonymous on http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/posts/39866 May 12, 2008 at 6:41am Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 On this printer you do not replace the firmware, just update it from the hp site. If you have updated the firmware and still have the issue you need to narrow down what https://thepizzy.net/blog/2010/01/hp-4240n-49-ff09-service-error/ application is being used when the error occurs. Once you know this then you have to contact the application manufactuer and see if they have a fix for the issue. I have seen this with a few foreign language character programs and the others I have service error seen it with the firmware upgrade worked. It could also be as simple as one document being used as a template which is corrupt and causes the error. by dmzcompute on Jul 28, 2006 at 11:19am Add comment Please sign in to comment No application is being used at the time of the error, They are sitting Idle, No Jobs being printed and no jobs in the que. - ihornsby 0 OK lets see if we can get some correct info. The 4250N has an embedded network card and I could be wrong service error hp but I do not know of any firmware upgrade for it so are we talking about the 4250N or the 4200. Just as you said you replaced the firmware, again that is upgraded via a download procedure. If in fact it is a 4250N what happens if you go into entrance menu by pressing the check mark after the power has been turned on and it starts the memory count. You then scroll down and choose to disable the embedded network card. Now leave the printer on and see if it gives the same error. If it doesnot I would lean towards issues with your network. If it still gives the error it has to be firmware or the formatter. Also make sure the formatter is for the correctg model. by dmzcompute on Jul 28, 2006 at 3:27pm Add comment Please sign in to comment This is a 4250N Printer, The firmware upgrade was done by download, we replaced the Formatter and Memory. I unplugged the printer from the network and they do not get the error. We are using a Novell network with Cisco switchs, any suggestions on what I could check on the network, This is only happening with the 4250N printers, we also use 5si, 8000, 8250, 4000, 4100, &5500 printers. Thanks - Anonymous 0 Novell network means you are probably using a print server. Lets take it out of the picture. I assume most of the computers are windows xp or 2000. If so try to load one of the printers local to the each computer using TCP/IP. Use the add printer, local, uncheck detect hit next and then go to the bo

After much searching on the internet, I found a couple different sites talking about the 49.xxxx Service Errors and what others had done in their troubleshooting efforts. Most of the links I came across mentioned something about reseating the memory stick and JetDirect card. I tried both those solutions, with a printer reboot several times. The only way to clear the error message is to reboot the computer also. I also tried restarting the Print Spooler on the Print Server, but that had no effect. In fact, that is where I noticed the problem. Sometimes the printers in that location showed up as Offline on the Print Server. And every time I tried to print something from the printer, it worked fine (i.e. configuration pages); but it did not print coming from the Print Server doing a simple Test Page. We narrowed down the problem to be a Communications error…nothing could communicate with the printer. That leaves the Network Path to the printer, and the JetDirect card as possible culprits. I replaced the network cables to all the printers connected to the switch in the area, and that didn't solve it. So I plugged the printer itself directly into the wall, and that DID solve it. Solution Our solution was a faulty network switch. So
