or an easy fix, but the forum won't let me do any searches with "speedometer" in the key words. Anyway, I recently bought a 98 Silverado 4x4 with the 4l60e and a 5.0 that the speedo reads way too fast. I verified chevy avalanche speedometer not working this with my GPS. When the speedo reads 50, I'm doing about 45. When it reads 61, I'm doing 55. When it reads 83, I'm doing 70. Etc etc. What's the fix for this? The tires are not oversized, either. And as far as I know, the transmission has been rebuilt, but not too sure how accurate that statement is. Probably just something the guy I bought it from said to make it more "tempting" to a potential buyer. It does throw a P1870 code, chevy trailblazer speedometer not working but that's a different issue. __________________ 1975 GMC Gentleman Jim #1 -357 / 700r4 1975 GMC Gentleman Jim #2 -350 / TH350 lindstromjd View Public Profile Find More Posts by lindstromjd 11-26-2014, 01:50 PM #2 UKNOWME Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2012 Location: Clovis, NM Posts: 1,902 Re: 1998 Silverado Speedometer is reading too fast Quote: Originally Posted by lindstromjd Not sure if this is a common problem or an easy fix, but the forum won't let me do any searches with "speedometer" in the key words. That transmission doesn't have a gear so it's signal comes from a speed sensor. If that sensor was bad it should set a code. Maybe the transmission was taken from another application that has a different speed sensor. Another possibilty is if the gears have been changed. Doe

Guess i wasn't too concerned about it until i went http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/110408-speedometer-calibration/ to look at getting stock P25 wheels. Is there any speedo calibration needed when switching wheel sizes or is it automatic from where the speedo connects on rig? Where ever that is. At about 70,000 mi. The speedometer was acting crazy. The manufacturer would not help me. They said there were many complaints about this but there was NO recall! They tried to sell me a new insterment cluster for 600 bucks. I bought an aftermarket one for 300, and installed it myself. It was very easy to do. Just pop off the face trim plate, unscrew 4 screws, unplug the old unit, and replace it with the new one! It only took 20 min. I bought my insterment cluster at JP Customs. In replacing the cluster will it reset the odometer or will the computer maintain the mileage after you unplug the old and add the new one?
