I can only think that they mean any associated errors that might be in the errorlog (such as OS error 112) or they mean any log file you might have your backup job writing to (log file from a maintenance plan for example).Otherwise there is in fact no such thing as a 'backup application log' --------------------------------------------------------------------- Post #1179727 Lynn PettisLynn Pettis Posted Thursday, September 22, 2011 2:17 PM SSC-Insane Group: General Forum Members Last Login: Today @ 2:45 PM Points: 23,350, Visits: 37,354 Are you using native SQL Server backups or are you running a third party backup application (LiteSpeed, et. al.)? issue. The VM backup fails and the Event Viewer on the host reports a VSS writer inside the VM failed. Upon inspection of the VM's Event Viewer and SQL Server's logs you find: Error: 18210, http://backupchain.com/i/how-to-fix-sql-error-18210-severity-16-error-3041 Severity: 16 and Error 3041 "Access Denied" It turns out the SQL backup, which is triggered by the VM backup, cannot proceed because the local system user (the default for the SQL Server VSS http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3396409/sql-server-2008-backup-fails-backup-database-is-terminating-abnormally Writer) doesn't have access to certain resources. Switching to a local administrator account resolves the issue. To do that, open "Services" via the Control Panel, open the properties of SQL Server VSS Writer, sql error switch to the Log On tab and change the user to a local admin user. Then restart the service and run the backup again. BackupDiskFile::CreateMedia: Backup device 'D:\XXX.bak' failed to create. Operating system error 5(failed to retrieve text for this error. Reason: 15105). ... Error: 3041, Severity: 16, State: 1. ...
