Especially from the release of version 2005 and now 2008. For me, it is the standard for all kinds of databases. The Object explorer, Tuning Advisor, the Query Analyser and T-SQL statements work great, and are a joy to work with. When it goes wrong somewhere, it is mostly a syntax error, sql server program(bug) error or a user error that causes the problem. Stable as it is, I can recomment the use of it to anyone. In this articles I like to share with you, some errors and "best practices" that came up during my work several times. So, initially set up was for my own references, now I share it with you. This Command Shell is disabled by default in SQL Server 2005 and 2008, and will be disabled in all future versions. It is, or can be a security issue, and as Microsoft is becoming more and more aware of this, the default setting is disabled in the versions 2005 and 2008. However, you can turn it on! This is often very handy, to make (older) (and present) stored procedures work in a (production) environment. Often you may receive an error something like this.Msg 15281, Level 16, State 1, Procedure xp_cmdshell, Line 1SQL Server blocked access to procedure 'sys.xp_cmdshell' of component 'xp_cmdshell' because this component is turned off as part of the security configuration for this server.
