Often times there are simple changes that can be made to a query that improves performance. Obviously, if you make the query faster, you won't need to worry about timeouts. –G Mastros Oct 14 '09 at 16:00 add a comment| 4 Answers 4 active oldest votes up vote 15 down vote accepted There's no "black voodoo magic" out there - either you can make your query go faster (return less data, improve the database design, find and apply indices that make your queries execute faster), or then increase the timeout you allow the query to run before a timeout is thrown. Those are your two options - take your pick. UPDATE: a little googling reveals: Dim cmd Set cmd = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Command") cmd.CommandTimeout = 120 ' number of seconds Marc share|improve this answer edited Oct 13 '09 at 16:07 answered Oct 13 '09 at 15:00 marc_s 450k918621027 In ConnectionString Itself i have to give the timeout or select from the database

'This part gives proper result ... rs.close() 'Second Data retrieval Query2 = "Select * from db.Event" CmdSQLData.CommandText = Query2 CmdSQLData.CommandType = adcmdText CmdSQLData.Timeout=0 set rs = CmdSQLData.Execute() 'This line Gives Error - RunTime Error '-2147467259 (80004005)'; Unspecified error Also i tried creating new command object as cmdSQLData1 but still same error May i know why the error is coming for second query ? Posted on 2000-11-08 Visual Basic Classic 1 Verified Solution 18 Comments 1,364 Views Last Modified: 2008-02-26 (VB6 sp4 on NT4 network. Data stored in MS SQL 7 on the file server.) I have written a VB app that runs on several client workstations. One of the forms in the app allows the users to add-change-delete employee records. With some regularity we are getting the following error when the users try to make a change to an employee's record: Run-time error '-2147467259 (80004005)': Timeout expired OK About a month ago I posted this question and the following was suggested: 1. The 'Timeout expired' error has to do with no response coming back from the SQL server and that this is not a problem with my app. 2. The suggestions went on to say that I should increase the cn.ConnectionTimeout to a greater number which I did (to 180). However, the errors are still occurring. It appears that the first user to edit the employee records has no problem, but subsequent users experienced this timeout error. I am not positive about this. I have followed all updates in the code with rs.Close and Set rs = Nothing statements. There are some stored procedures also in the app. I now doubt that the timeout error has anything to do with no response coming back from the file server. I think it has something to do with record locking or some type of conflicts or something along those lines when multiple users are using the app. Here again I am not positive. Does anyone know what Runtime error '-2147467259 (80004005)' means? Also, there are other forms in the same app that also do add-change-delete functions against other tables and they have no problems. The employee table has nothing unique
