like "[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB] General Network error. Check your network documentation" when I run a load on sql server 2005 (64 bit) using ssis however i must mention that in the https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/867581 past i did manage to solve the problem using a hot fix on KB articlce 942861.This worked for about for months now the problem is thatthe error is back. I have also came across other KB articles that seem to suggest alternative ways of resolving the issue.I have not used them yet! KB 945977 KB 899599 KB 940202 KB 951037 KB 328476 Also another https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/72e0ba1b-56b3-4370-9d79-65459a87817b/microsoftodbc-sql-server-driverdbnetlib-general-network-error-check-your-network?forum=sqlintegrationservices suggestion was to disable SynAttackProtect.(more related to Biztalk) What I am looking for is the ultimate fix becuase the initial fix which is specified under KB article KB 942861 has failed to stop the problem having said that I must mention that it did work for 4 months. Is it possible that a later hotfix might have overwritten KB942861?Should I reinstall it again. best regards Globalwarmingnewbie Monday, March 29, 2010 10:39 AM Reply | Quote All replies 0 Sign in to vote General Network error really means something wrong with the network or the NIC card of the relevant Servers. Try Disabling TCP Chimney and SNP features off both at the OS level and at the NIC Card level. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951037?wa=wsignin1.0DebarchanS - MSFT Proposed as answer by Debarchan Sarkar - MSFT Monday, March 11, 2013 10:49 PM Wednesday, February 20, 2013 8:59 PM Reply | Quote Microsoft is conducting an online survey to understand your opinion of the Msdn Web site. The error message is the generic [DBNETLIB][ConnectionWrite (send()).]General network error. Check your network documentation. This is reliably reproduced by leaving the app open for the night and resuming work in the morning. Since it's a backend server app this is a normal scenario. The funny thing is - we've migrated from SQL Server 7 to 2000 to 2008 and the issue odbc sql server is present on all of them. But what seems to matter is the OS on which we run the app. On WinXP it works fine, on Vista/7 it fails. So the problem is at the client end. The results of Google on the error message cover a very wide spectrum of different causes (since this is a very generic error) and none of the scenarios found there are similar to ours. So perhaps someone around here will know what the problem is in our case? sql-server general-network-error share|improve this question asked Jul 9 '10 at 10:10 Vilx- 49.7k57194329 Does your app keep a single SQL connection open for the lifetime of the app? –Chris Bednarski Jul 9 '10 at 10:34 @Chris Bednarski - I think so, I'm not familiar with that part. –Vilx- Jul 9 '10 at 11:22 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 5 down vote You should be able to reproduce this error condition on demand by: 1. Opening a database connection (in your client application) 2. Unplugging the network cable 3. Plugging network cable back in (wait until the network connection is restored) 4. Using the previously opened connection to query the database As far as I can tell from experi

Seems to be random and not connected to any particular page. The SQL server is separated from the web server and my guess is that every once and a while the "link" goes down between the two. Router/switch issue... or has someone else ran into this problem before? sql-server networking asp-classic share|improve this question edited Sep 13 '12 at 7:39 Ram Saurabh 1,461526 asked Sep 5 '08 at 20:35 tooshel 74621225 add a comment| 5 Answers 5 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote accepted Using the same setup as yours (ie separate web and database server), I've seen it from time to time and it has always been a connection problem between the servers - typically when the database server is being rebooted but sometimes when there's a comms problem somewhere in the system. I've not seen it triggered by any problems with the ASP code itself, which is why you're seeing it apparently at random and not connected to a particular page. share|improve this answer answered Sep 6 '08 at 3:49 Simon Forrest 2,2091420 add a comment| up vote 1 down vote I wanted to add this resource to the discussion here since this is such a common error and rather confusing to diagnose.
