write failure on backup device 'K:\MSSQL\Bkup\xxx_OR\xx_OR_200512010117.BAK'. Operating system error 112(There is not enough space on the disk.).But drive K contains 353 GB of hard disk space. How can i interpret this error. Is this I/O issue. The command executed isBACKUP DATABASE [xxx_OR] TO DISK = N'K:\MSSQL\Bkup\xxx_OR\xxx_OR_200512010117.BAK' WITH INIT , NOUNLOAD , NOSKIP , STATS = 10, NOFORMAT.I have restarted the backup with sql server error 53 FORMAT option and now it is in the processes of backing up(Without NOSKIP).Any pointers as to why this error is appreciated Helen--------------------------------Are you a born again. It creates a new backup file, and then deletes the old backup file after creating the new one. It needs enough space for 2 backups files bacause of this. This is the safe way to do backups, because you always have a backup file on disk. The solution is to make sure you have enough disk space for 2 backup files. What is the size of your database. I know with 353 Gb available space the pointer I reference may not be the case. When I checked disk space I found there was still 1 GB free, and the .bak file looked ok, all 4GB of it, not compressed. So I ran a RESTORE VERIFYONLY command on that file: RESTORE VERIFYONLY FROM DISK = 'D:\MSSQL\MSSQL12.MSSQLSERVER\Backup\backup_xxxx.bak' that responded: The backup set on file 1 is valid. So which version of the story should I trust? Note: According to Pinal Dave (http://blog.sqlauthority.com/2016/04/14/sql-server-backup-randomly-failing-error-112-not-enough-space-disk/) the first error is not accurate, especially if using compressed backups. sql-server backup share|improve this question edited Jun 7 at 11:48 marc_s 5,41632743 asked Jun 6 at 10:43 simonpa71 364 Are you compressing the backup or not though? –Molenpad Jun 6 a

Cause At the moment the export of a database starts the uncompressed space required for the export is reserved. When there https://sqldbpool.com/2010/12/20/operating-system-error-112/ is insufficient free space in the temporary directory for this, the above error will occur for that database. The MSSQL database works in the following manner: The backup manager will sql server request a copy of the databases using a SQL-Query via sqldump. The MSSQL server will 'freeze' the status of the databases, but will still function by storing all transactions into logfiles. The database will be copied by the SQL server into the temporary folder. When the copying of the databases is finished, the database becomes writable again and the sql server error transaction logs are processed. The OBM will read out the database and compares it with a previous backup, and (if there are differences) will create a incremental of differential file. The full database or the differences will be uploaded to the backup server. This process will result in a disk-space usage of 1.5 times the size of the databases in the temporary folder during the backup. Therefore you should assign a folder which can contain at least 1.5x as much data as the size of the databases combined. Solution We recommend you to choose a temporary folder on a disk which is not used for windows or the SQL server, to prevent problems. Stop all running SQL backup tasks. Remove the content of the temporarily directory of the SQL set. Choose a different folder on a disk which has at least the free space available to contain 1.5 times the size of the database(s) Open the software Go to the backupset settings (cog) Choose the SQL backupset Go to the 'Options' tab Select a differe
