Post navigation ← Older posts How to move data files of the mirrordatabase Posted on September 26, 2010 by Amit Banerjee The ideal scenario for database https://troubleshootingsql.com/tag/mirroring/ mirroring would be to have the principal and secondary server instances http://www.sql-server-performance.com/forum/threads/database-mirroring-error-error-1479-severity-16-state-2.30671/ be exact clones of each other from a hardware and disk space standpoint. This would ensure that the performance on the mirror instance is the same as the principal instance. But due to multiple constraints, this is not always possible. I recently had a question on how to sql server move a secondary data file to a different physical location on the mirror instance. The catch here is that the physical data file locations on the principal and mirror instances are not the same. Now this can be tricky if not attempted or tested in your environment. The Microsoft SQLCAT(Twitter|Blog) team has a blog post on how to move the in sql server transaction log of a mirrored database to a secondary location. We shall use the same logic for the data file as well. Steps If the server on which the data file relocation has to be done is not the mirror server currently, then failover the mirrored database so that the server on which the OS File has to be physically moved is the current Mirror. Change to High Performance mode if running under High Safety. Execute the ALTER DATABASE statement to move the data file to the new location on the mirror instance. Pause Mirroring to prevent any automatic failover while OS File Copy is happening. Stop the Mirror instance. Copy the file across to the new location (OS File Copy). Start the Mirror Instance. Resume mirroring and switch back to High Safety if the mirroring was running under High Safety. The mirroring should continue without any issues. Failback to original server if needed. If the data file locations are the same on the principal and mirror and the data files need to be moved to diffe
error - Error: 1479, Severity: 16, State: 2. Discussion in 'SQL Server 2005 General DBA Questions' started by priyaram, Aug 3, 2009. priyaram New Member we are getting database mirroring timeout issue when ever our transaction file groows larger.for eg. sunday we will do reindexing and the file size will be !10 - 12 GB. and it's tkaing more time to synchronize the files between the mirroring and principal server. and also our lan is about 1 GB speed, and it's using max 1 percent only. If i look into the mirroing history log, is the send rate is higher , the time to send the log is very low. or else it's higher.i am confused about the bottle neck here.I am thinking the network is the bottle neck.is there a way i can isolate the problem. any help will be appreciated. thanks priyaram, Aug 3, 2009 #2 arunyadav Member Check if this could help DB Mirroring 1479 arunyadav, Aug 3, 2009 #3 (You must log in or sign up to reply here.)
