create a table with data etc, all straight forward. The problem I am having is when I come to creating a user for the database. I have the following users in there already, which I am guessing are put in by default: dbo guest INFORMATION_SCHEMA msg 15007, level 16, state 1 sys When I try creating a new user via this screen I get the following error: TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express------------------------------ Create failed for User 'growstudiouser'. I am typing in the name as "growstudiouser" and the login name as "growstudio". Or am I just using the wrong section to do what I want. I'm trying to create a user so that when the database is built I can connect to it using a username and password that I have created. I

(Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 15007)The login is valid. I can add it easily since I have sa permissions. In SQL 2000, a db_owner could add a new user for any existing login, but in SQL 2005, the "browse for objects" dialog box for adding a new user only shows yourself. How can I allow database owners to add new users whenever http://www.sqlteam.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=104997 they want without also allowing them full control over all logins? In other words, I do not want to give them the securityadmin server role.Thanks.-David sodeep Flowing Fount of Yak Knowledge USA 7174 Posts Posted-06/17/2008: 11:46:24 "In SQL 2000, a db_owner could add a new user for any existing login, but in SQL 2005, the "browse for objects" dialog box for adding a new user only shows yourself."Not really. You have to give db_securityadmin which is only for that database but if you need for all databases then you have to go for server role which is not good at all. juggler Starting Member 9 Posts Posted-06/17/2008: 14:55:15 "You have to give db_securityadmin which is only for that database but if you need for all databases then you have to go for server role which is not good at all."Thanks, but I'm pretty sure db_owner includes db_securityadmin. Anyhow, adding db_securityadmin does not fix my problem. The user still gets the same error. The problem seems to have something to do with the fact that the db_owner does not have permission to view any of the login objects. It seems like I need to grant permission to view all logins, but I don't know how to do that, and I never needed to do it in sql 2000. rmiao Flowing Fount of Yak Knowledge USA 7266 Posts Posted-06/18/2008: 23:

"dorknozzle is not a valid login or you do not have permission micorsoft sql server error 15007" I followed the instructions in my book which say to:-set server authentication to SQL Server and Windows authentication-expand Security-> Logins node and select New Login-select SQL Server authentication and type dorknozzle as username and dorknozzle as password-deselect Enforce password policy -change default database to Dorknozzle Then give full access to dorknozzle by:-select User Mapping from the Select a page pane-check the Dorknozzle table in list-check the db_owner role After I do this, I see that dorknozzle has been added to the list of users under the security node in the Dorknozzle database. Is there something I am missing that would generate this error? The connection string I am using is:"Server=Owner-PC\SqlExpress;" & "Database=Dorknozzle;User ID=dorknozzle;Password=dorknozzle" I did notice when I went back to the Security->Logins-> dorknozzle, that the password that was stored looks longer than the one I typed (dorknozzle).
