vote favorite I get a stacktrace that indicates a stack overflow caused by a non-terminating program. However I don't know how to let the eclipse debugger break when this occurs. I'd rather not post the stacktrace but it starts with: JVM Error! at ___ at org.eclipse.jetty.server.handler.HandlerWrapper.handle(HandlerWrapper.java:113) at org.eclipse.jetty.server.Server.handle(Server.java:334) at org.eclipse.jetty.server.HttpConnection.handleRequest(HttpConnection.java:559) at org.eclipse.jetty.server.HttpConnection$RequestHandler.headerComplete(HttpConnection.java:992) at org.eclipse.jetty.http.HttpParser.parseNext(HttpParser.java:550) at org.eclipse.jetty.http.HttpParser.parseAvailable(HttpParser.java:203) at org.eclipse.jetty.server.HttpConnection.handle(HttpConnection.java:406) at org.eclipse.jetty.io.nio.SelectChannelEndPoint.run(SelectChannelEndPoint.java:462) at org.eclipse.jetty.util.thread.QueuedThreadPool$2.run(QueuedThreadPool.java:436) at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source) Caused by: null at ___ Followed by a very long repeating sequence of function calls. Comments JavaWorld | Jul 4, 2009 3:04 PM PT Comments A recent JavaWorld Community forum message (Stack Overflow after instantiating new object) reminded me that the basics of the StackOverflowError are not always understood well by people new to Java. Fortunately, the StackOverflowError is one of the easier of the runtime errors to debug and in this blog posting I will demonstrate how easy it often is to diagnose a StackOverflowError. I can build the project outside of Eclipse with no issues, but I am seeing strange errors inside the ide. First of all, a few of the projects (4 out of 25) used in the application are showing errors that do not make any sense. For any object that implements the collection interface, I see an error saying "the type X is not generic it cannot be parameterized with arguments ." For example: It is a java.util.collection. I get the same error for decedent types as well.... eg.. map, tree, ArrayList... etc. Also, when I do a project->clean, Eclipse throws a StackOverflow error when building these projects. This is the trace from the log: !ENTRY org.eclipse.core.jobs 4 2 2015-12-09 15:50:54.309 !MESSAGE An internal error occurred during: "Build Project". !STACK 0 java.lang.StackOverflowError at org.eclipse.jdt.internal.compiler.lookup.ParameterizedTypeBinding.substituteInferenceVariable(ParameterizedTypeBinding.java:856) at org.eclipse.jdt.internal.compiler.lookup.ParameterizedTypeBinding.substituteInferenceVariable(ParameterizedTypeBinding.java:856) at org.eclipse.jdt.internal.compiler.lookup.ParameterizedTypeBinding.substituteInferenceVariable(ParameterizedTypeBinding.java:856) at org.eclipse.jdt.internal.compiler.lookup.ParameterizedTypeBinding.substituteInferenceVariable(ParameterizedTypeBinding.java:856) at org.eclipse.jdt.internal.compiler.lookup.ParameterizedTypeBinding.substituteInferenceVariable(ParameterizedTypeBinding.java:856) at org.eclipse.jdt.internal.compiler.lookup.ParameterizedTypeBinding.substituteInferenceVariable(ParameterizedTypeBinding.java:856) at org.eclipse.jdt.internal
