Applications & Tools (3) Operating Systems (4) Prototcols (2) Security & Protection (4) Technical Support (2) Drive errors in the system log (status=0x51, error=0x04) Problem: I just activated the drive tweaks in Cpanel or attempted to perform manual harddrive tweaks using the hdparm program. Now I see these errors in my system logs (/var/log/messages) --SNIP-- Jan 9 23:28:18 18 kernel: hda: drive_cmd: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error } Jan 9 23:28:18 18 kernel: hda: drive_cmd: error=0x04 { DriveStatusError } Jan 9 23:28:18 18 kernel: ide: failed opcode was: 0xef --SNIP-- Solution: There are many different drive_cmd status and error codes, but these exact ones (status=0x51, error=0x04) are caused by trying to use hdparm to set a DMA mode that is not supported by the hard drive or ide interface hardware. If this error has been produced by setting Cpanel hard drive tweaks, deactivate the hard drive tweak setting in Cpanel to prevent the errors from being produced on each reboot. It will show a code telling you why the camera rebooted. Please see the list below. 0x00: status=0x51 { DVR has rebooted normally: routine maintenance reboot or a user reboot. 0x01: Abnormal reboot: power loss, system crash, or other undefined abnormality. 0x02: Log stuck. 0x03: Hard drive read-write slow: hard drive read-write speed has dropped significantly, hard drive capacity has seriously decreased. 0x04: Abnormal recording: Over 3 minutes with no stream on the recording channel. 0x05: Bad track: The hard status=0x51 { driveready drive has a bad track. Troubleshooting the codes 0x00: Check in Settings>System>Auto Maintain to ensure that the DVR is not set to reboot. 0x01: This one is the hardest one to diagnose. We recommend updating the firmware to the most recent found at www.amcrest.com/firmware, hard resetting the DVR, and ensuring the DVR is receiving consistent power. 0x02: Clear the log. Go to Information>Log and click Clear. 0x03: Check in Settings>Storage>HDD Manage and look at the Status. If it is not "Normal", it is likely that there is a hard drive error and it needs to be replaced. 0x04: Check all of the camera connections and ensure they are powered correctly. 0x05: Check in Settings>Storage>HDD Manage and look at the Status. If it is not "Normal", it is likely that there is a hard drive error and it needs to be replaced. Reburn the iboot cd at the lowest possible speed and use name brand media (sony, ricoh or my favourite verbatim). Using generic store bought 5 for 99c is going to cause problems.
