What does a status code of 0 mean? Does it mean the same thing across all browsers, and for all HTTP client utilities? Is it part of the HTTP spec or is it part of some other protocol spec? It seems to mean that the HTTP

request could not be made at all, perhaps because the server address could not be resolved. What error message is appropriate to show the user? "Either you are not connected to the internet, or the website is encountering problems, or there might be a typing error in the address"? I should add to this that I see the behavior in FireFox when set to "Work Offline", but not in Microsoft Internet Explorer when set to "Work Offline". In IE, the user gets a dialog giving the option to go online. FireFox does not notify the user before returning the error. I am asking this in response to a request to "show a better error message". What Internet Explorer does is good. It tells the user what is causing the problem and gives them the option to fix it. In order to give an equivalent UX with FireFox I need to infer the cause of the problem and inform the user. So what in total can I infer from Status 0? Does it have a universal meaning or does it tell me nothing? ajax browser xmlhttprequest share|improve this question edited Oct 19 '14 at 15:02 Mark Amery 23.3k12116147 asked Sep 29 '10 at 20:28 Mark Lutton 3,62632842 Please see this question, which covers the same topic: stackoverflow.com/questions/872206/… –Scott Stafford Sep 29 '10 at 20:29 2 I believe this is the most accurate answer: stackoverflow.com/a/14507670/700206 –Lee Whitney

I have tried using the headers which I found on a Google search, and I have used beforeSend:"" too, but it's still not working. I think the main problem is: XMLHttpRequest cannot load http://www.tutorialspoint.com/prototype/prototype_ajax_response.htm. Origin "local server" is not allowed by Access-Control-Allow-Origin. but I don't understand it. Can anyone please explain the problem to me, as I'm quite new to this.

AJAX error status 0 for some *but not all* browsers in Using jQuery • 3 years ago When submitting jQuery AJAX calls ajax error status one piece of code is going straight to the error handler, receiving an error code of type 'error' and status code '0', but null for all other data, but ONLY on some browsers / devices. We are using jQuery 1.8.3, but have used 1.4 too and having the same problem. We are using the JQuery AJAX code below to submit the data to a PHP script for processing. It has always worked for me, the rest of our development team, and almost all of our testers. The testers who did experience problems reported that it started working again for them since, and none of us can replicate the problem.jQuery.ajax( { type: 'POST', url: '/ajax/filename.php', dataType: "json", async: true, data: {............data goes here...........}, success: function(server_response) { // code goes here }, error: function(response_object, textStatus, exception_object) { // report error here } });This code worked perfectly for around 9000 people so far, but a small percentage report problems. The exact percentage is impossible to know, perhaps from 1% to 5% as an estimate. We have tried turning the asynch to false as this was suggested in another forum, but as expected that did not help at all.The PHP script is on the same server, all accessed using HTTP, and the link is always relative. I know that this error is some

I saved this as firstAjax.html in my hard disk. I typed the url:http://www.w3schools.com/ajax/gethint.asp?q=u and get result "Unni". Then I modified firstAjax.html and inserted the url (as can be seen from above). When I type something in the text box of firstAjax.html, nothing shows up. So I put an alert to show the status. It prints: "I am ready status:0". This is weird, isn't it? Because the same url can give results from firefox. But the same url can not work for the same code from the
