check whether a URL (represented by a NSURL) is available or returns 404. What is the best way to achieve that? I would prefer a way to check this without a delegate, if possible. I need to block the program execution until I know if the URL is reachable or not. iphone nsurlconnection share|improve this question edited May 6 '13 at 14:16 Gilles 55.8k15118180 asked Sep 10 '09 at 9:54 Erik http error codes 4,3271261105 add a comment| 4 Answers 4 active oldest votes up vote 35 down vote accepted As you may know already that general error can capture by didFailWithError method: - (void)connection:(NSURLConnection *)connection didFailWithError:(NSError *)error { NSLog(@"Connection failed! Error - %@ %@", [error localizedDescription], [[error userInfo] objectForKey:NSErrorFailingURLStringKey]); } but for 404 "Not Found" or 500 "Internal Server Error" should able to capture inside didReceiveResponse method: - (void)connection:(NSURLConnection *)connection didReceiveResponse:(NSURLResponse *)response { if ([response respondsToSelector:@selector(statusCode)]) { int statusCode = [((NSHTTPURLResponse *)response) statusCode]; if (statusCode == 404) { [connection cancel]; // stop connecting; no more delegate messages NSLog(@"didReceiveResponse statusCode with %i", statusCode); } } } share|improve this answer edited Jun 11 '12 at 11:15 jodm 1,90921637 answered Sep 10 '09 at 10:14 Jirapong 16.9k83862 6 Note that there's a handy class method on NSHTTPURLResponse to return a localized description for the error code: [NSHTTPURLResponse localizedStringForStatusCode: [response statusCode]] –Jim Dovey Mar 20 '11 at 19:41 Is it possible to have this in Swift..? Thank you very much –ernestocattaneo Jan 7 '15 at 15:52 2 I'm sure you do this in Swift version. Convert by hand would not be difficult. –Jirapong Jan 13 '15 at 3:49 @Jirapong: I have few doubts. For example: NSURLRequest *request = [NSURLRequest requestWithURL:[NSURL URLWithString:@"http://www.google.com/images/someImageIknowDoesntExist.jpg"] cachePolicy:NSURLRequestReturnCacheDataElseLoad timeoutInterval:10.0]; urlConnection = [[NSURLConnection alloc] initWithRequest:request delegate:self]; Does not trigger didFailWithError. The error method only gets called if there was an actually error fetching the URL (like the network went down, or the host doesn't exist, etc). share|improve this answer answered Oct 20 '10 at 21:48 Jason Coco 66k18162164 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email and Password Post as a guest Name Email Post as a guest Name Email discard By posting your answer, you agree to the privacy policy and terms of service. I can't do status code anything with existing containers. I get Error response from daemon: 404 page not found error on pretty much all commands. I googled a lot and some people recommended adding export NO_PROXY="/var/run/docker.sock line to /etc/default/docker. It fixed "docker info" command but not the rest such as rm, start or restart. I have: Linux expert-linux 4.2.0-18-generic #22-Ubuntu SMP Fri Nov 6 18:25:50 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 did fail with x86_64 GNU/Linux docker version output Client: Version: 1.9.0 API version: 1.21 Go version: go1.4.2 Git commit: 76d6bc9 Built: Tue Nov 3 17:54:53 UTC 2015 OS/Arch: linux/amd64 Server: Version: 1.9.0 API version: 1.21 Go version: go1.4.2 Git commit: 76d6bc9 Built: Tue Nov 3 17:54:53 UTC 2015 OS/Arch: linux/amd64` docker info output Containers: 2 Images: 58 Server Version: 1.9.0 Storage Driver: aufs Root Dir: /var/lib/docker/aufs Backing Filesystem: extfs Dirs: 62 Dirperm1 Supported: true Execution Driver: native-0.2 Logging Driver: json-file Kernel Version: 4.2.0-18-generic Operating System: Ubuntu 15.10 CPUs: 8 Total Memory: 15.61 GiB Name: expert-linux ID: 3RY6:E2ID:APBE:GB3U:N6CM:ZSUY:Q3KN:7E7L:LLN3:Q5CY:6XAS:NGAN Username: expert Registry: https://index.docker.io/v1/ WARNING: No swap limit support` I tried reinstalling docker which also didn't fix it. It seems like it's an issue with proxy setting and is some obvious bug. If I call unset http_proxy before running docker command it helps. With that I can remove container and recreate it again thus launching it. But doing so on every reboot is horrible. Please help!!! GordonTheTurtle commented Nov 13, 2015 Hi!
