Typical way to fix is to create a new database, and import all the objects from the older database into subscript out of range meaning the new database. In ACCESS 2007, this is done by clicking on External Data tab on the ribbon, clicking on Access icon in Import group, and follow the wizard's prompts. -- Ken Snell

I took another look at the spreadsheet I was trying to import (it was created by another person) and there was a column heading with a space in front. Once I removed that space, the file imported fine. This is something you might want to just try first. beejay56, Jul 26, 2010 #4 toon999 Joined: Oct 5, 2011 Likes Received: 0 I had this problem. 1. when trying to use the first row for field names had the word 'access' in some - when removed the error about bad names went away 2: while it looked as though there was no white space in the field names, Had the search key error. when I used =Trim(

An error occurred trying to import file [blah]. The file was not imported. I don't know what I'm doing wrong! I imported this exact file yesterday without a problem. I was importing it again to overwrite the first one because I wanted to change some of the Long Integer fields to Text. I thought that might be causing the problem, so I tried to just import the file again from scratch, not changing anything (leaving the Long Integer fields as they are), but I still get this error. Any help would be greatly appreciated! The message says I have a key violation when I am overwriting a table. There were duplicates in the excel file (primary key field) which I deleted and I checked the excel file meticulously. I have reimported and its still showing the same message. What course of action subscript out of can I take to resolve? Duplicate values (key violation error) Records that you are importing might contain duplicate values that cannot be stored in the primary key field of the destination table or in a field that has the Indexed property set to Yes (No Duplicates). Eliminate the duplicate values in the source file and try importing again. ms-access ms-access-2007 share|improve this question edited Jan 20 '11 at 0:04 Fionnuala 77.1k665110 asked Aug 7 '10 at 2:26 Sammy 612 What's your unique index in the target table in Access? What are the values in the source fields in the Excel spreadsheet? Access is telling you there is overlap between these, and there must be or it would succeed without error. –David-W-Fenton Aug 7 '10 at 22:33 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote All you can do is zero in on the problem. I am inclined to doubt it's a bug, but even if it is, you still have to find the precise trigger. In the Excel file, pull the key column(s) together, and sort the Excel table for it/them. Add conditional formatting using a formula on that full range (if it started in A2 the conditional formatting would read =A2=A1, no
