this technique non-identical sectors are detected. If an error occurs (read or sync error), the program keeps on reading this sector, until eight of 16 retries are identical, but at maximum one, three eac peak level or five times (according to the selected error recovery quality) these 16 retries are read. So, in the worst case, bad sectors are read up to 82 times! But this effort will help the program to obtain the best result by comparing all of the retries. Advertisement / Anzeige If it is not sure that the audio stream is correct (at least that it can not be eac burst mode said at approx. 99.5%) the program will tell the user where the (possible) read error occurred. The program also tries to correct the jitter artefacts that occur on the first block of a track, so that each extraction should be exactly the same. On drives which have the "accurate stream" feature, this is guaranteed. Of course, this technology is a little bit more complex, especially with some CD drives which implements caching. When drives cache audio data, every sector read will be read from the drives cache and is that way always identical. Basically there are several ways to clear the cache. In newer versions it will overread sectors, so that the cache contains sectors from a position elsewhere on the CD. Advertisement / Anzeige EAC has several secure read modes, depending on the features of the drive. One really fast mode (nearly burst mode speed) is for drives with C2 error pointer support, accurate stream and are non-caching. Another mode (up to half of maximum speed) is for non-caching, accurate stream drives (without C2 support). If caching need to be defeated, the secure mode will be much slower, when no read errors occur it will usually someth

Products Owned: 0 Products Wanted: 0 Trophy Points: 41 Location: Kent Ratings: +18 I've eac test and copy got a number of CDs that are very old, and some of these aren't in the best condition. When I try
Eac Gap Detection Method
& Rip these to Flac using EAC I get "Read Error" then "Sync Error". EAC slows down & tries again, sometimes to "X 0.1"! Eventually it'll get through to the end, but leave me with http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/en/index.php/overview/basic-technology/extraction-technology/ a log full full of information about errors that have occurred. Does this mean that the Flac files will in some way have inaccurate information? or is it just a note to tell me of problems that have been encountered on the way but have been error corrected? Currently I have no easy method to check the quality of the Flac files as all sounds OK on the computer & I https://www.avforums.com/threads/eac-read-error-sync-error.452841/ don't have a Squeezebox on my Main Hifi yet. Also....If all is fine with the Flac files above then the question below isn't necessary for me.... It was the CD autochanger I had in a car about 10 years ago the scratched up these CDs & when I realised what was happening I backed up those important but damaged CDs onto CDR with Nero years ago. The original CDs still play fine, but get errors in EAC. Because it tends to be my more played CDs that are suffering from errors due additional wear & tear I have a backup of a few of these CDs in my car on CDR which I burned a few years ago. Would there be anything lost by Flac encoding from those? Is anything lost in the CDR convertion? Will I still get Track info from EAC? Thanks, Mark. I have run into just a handfull of cd's that don't pass EAC scrutiny. I allowed one cd to run in EAC fow two hours. Should I just let it run for hours or is there something else I can do. I have confirmed that all my settings are correct and 99% of my cds have ripped without incident. Cheers jgreid Mark Lanctot2007-02-23, 13:54You may be able to get by with one or two unreadable samples, but if there are enough of them in a row, you'll get a tick. More and it will be a pop, more and it'll be a dropout. Once EAC has progressed to "read error" or "synch error" there's nothing more it can do, and if it gets enough errors in a row, the result will be audible. Is the CD damaged? CD repair kits work well. Is the CD copy-protected? If so, expect errors every 6-12 seconds. The errors will be inaudible but ripping will take a LONG time (overnight or longer). Copy-protected CDs have the following logo on the back: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Copy_control_logo.png jgreid2007-02-23, 14:12I have studied each of the four cds closely and I can't detect any damage. I have listened to the offending tracks using my cd player and I don't hear anything wrong. My Ipod tracks for the cd's are also very good. None of the cd's are copy protected. They vary from just a few months old to over ten years old: one clasical, one new age, and two progressive rock. regalma12007-02-23, 15:25I got the impression that in your case EAC just keeps running, without an error message. I've had some run a long time, hours, but usually they will end up coming up with an error message if they run that long. You could try another CD player if you have one. I've had luck with dbPoweramp software (free for the basic version) for units that EAC can't process, but it will still take hours. Usually I'll save ripping those CDs for when I go to bed or to work. I've never had a commercial CD that I could not rip that did not have obvious damage. With one exception, the last track on a CD that runs over an hour sometimes can't be ripped. That is probably CD player dependent. Be sure to clean the CD real
