I tried putting the left brace after that line before the parenthesis and before the whole line, other errors... actionscript-3 flash share|improve this question edited Feb 28 '13 at 6:19 Benoît Guédas 730422 asked Feb 28 '13 at 2:03 theHeretic 32211 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote Your syntax is incorrect. If you're trying to make a class, you need to get rid of the left and right parenthesis (like the error is telling you, you're giving it the wrong input and its expecting a left brace ({)). So, try the following: package { import flash.events.*; // Put a semi-colon after imports import flash.ui.*; // Here too //public class tank () // 1084: Syntax error: expecting leftbrace before leftparen. public class tank // This should not error on you. { //other stuff } } Hope that helps! share|improve this answer answered Feb 28 '13 at 2:08 user1357649 add a comment| Did you find this question interesting? You may be confusing the class definition with the constructor, which does use parenthesis and is nested within the class.

I keep getting: WEB INTERFACE, Layer 'Actions', Frame 1, Line 9 1084: Syntax error: expecting syntax error rightparen before semicolon. WEB INTERFACE, Layer 'Actions', Frame 1, Line 12 1084: Syntax error: expecting rightparen before semicolon. The code I'm using is: BANG.play(); BANG.addEventListener(VideoEvent.COMPLETE, gotoAndPlay("Scene 1","frame2"()); function _doNext(e:VideoEvent):void { BANG.removeEventListener(VideoEvent.COMPLETE, gotoAndPlay("Scene 1","frame2"()); syntax error expecting trace("video done, what's next?"); }Return to posts indexReport Post •Re: 1084: Syntax error: expecting rightparen before semicolon.by demetri tashie on Jul 20, 2013 at 7:28:41 pmtry it this way instead import fl.video.*;
BANG.source = "myVideo.flv";
BANG.play();
BANG.addEventListener(VideoEvent.COMPLETE, doNext);
function doNext(e:VideoEvent):void
{

- this code is for AS3. by some of your syntax, you might be using AS2. - although technically acceptable, don't start a function name with an underscore. stick to all letters - let the event listener reference the function, and don't put any other code there - don't use scenes. if you are directing the timeline, call out the frame number, or use a frame label IF this line of code would be OK, to use: (VideoEvent.CO

Problem. My client has sent me .swf files that are to be redone ... the problem is the original developer did not leave the .fla file so I am using a flash decompiler (*******)... I'm getting a bunch of funk code... I am receiving one of several error messages... hope the first error will fix the others... here is the error message(1): CustomVideoPlayer.as, Line 196 1084: Syntax error: expecting identifier before rightbrace. here is the action script: line 194: var _loc_3:* = event.info.code; line 195: switch(_loc_3 === "NetStream.Buffer.Full" ? (1) : (_loc_3 === "NetStream.Play.Start" ? (2) : (_loc_3 === "NetStream.Play.StreamNotFound" ? (3) : (_loc_3 === "NetStream.Play.Stop" ? (4) : (_loc_3 === "NetStream.Seek.Notify" ? (5) : (Jump to 23) line 196: }// end try I have been working on solving this problem all day with no solution... but great suggestions from developers. I have changed the above statement from a "switch" to a "if" statement ... not too familiar with (Jump to ...) so I removed it because it just did not look correct ... and removed the colons to semi-colons ... but I am still receiving the same error message "Re: 1084: Syntax error: expecting identifier before rightbrace." I can post or email the project files if that will help. So here's a guess.. Line 196 1084: Syntax error: expecting identifier before rightbrace. looks like you have no opening brace ({) for this starement Code: line 196: }// end try If I was guessing...which I am by the way, I'd put it in after: Code: line 194: var _loc_3:* = event.info.code; and before Code: line 195: switch but that really doesn't make sense unless it's also enclosed in a larger statement.
