Cause Due to DOS and WinPE being limited to mapping drives instead of mapping mount points like Linux does, and as they do not load the target machines registry in order to obtain currently assigned drive letters, they assign all detected drives automatically. This means that if a machine has four or more drives, then DOS and WinPE will not be able to map to the F: drive, as it will already be used up during the drive mapping phase, causing a "System error 85 has occurred. The local device name is already in use." error to be thrown Solution As WinPE uses the X

Altiris DS 6.9 Build 365 and only has 2 gb of space left on the hard drive. For reasons that are not easy to explain there is no way to free up anymore space. My delima is that on the d drive there is plenty of space 30gb. The clients are booting to a dos pxe and I have went in to the program options under agent settings then Automation Agent settings checked force new automation agents to take these settings clicked on change default settings and set the drive to map to the new share on the d drive then applied it. Reboot the machine and it still is looking for the old share and asking for the password. any ideas? nlpc, Jun 10, 2009 #1 gwilmington New Member You mentioned DOS PXE, that's where you want to create another drive mapping. You'll need to edit your PXE image. As for changing automation settings, you have to change it on the machine itself for it to take effect. It sounds like you're trying to change it in the console Tools>Options>Agent Settings and that will only update NEW clients, not existing. gwilmington, Jun 10, 2009 #2 nlpc New Member how does one edit the dos pxe image? even if i go under view update all client connections? nlpc, Jun 10, 2009 #3 gwilmington New Member Do it from the DS box itself. Open up the PXE Configuration Manager and you should see the PXE images that you have in your environment. If there's a DOS PXE image, then you can just edit that image and add the new drive mapping. Be sure to read up on how to do it just to be safe. HTH gwilmington, Jun 10, 2009 #4 mack_jason New Member I've had to do this several times.
