I have tried pressing f8, repair your computer then system restore however I keep getting the 0x8000ffff error. I have tried a few different restore points but still the same. If anyone could help it would be much appreciated. Thanks, Matt. Unfortunately 0x8000fff is one of those errors with no defined roots, it crops up for all kinds of reasons and in all kinds of situations; most users never find what the actual problem was even once they've fixed it. I've just been frantically reading about this to try and find an easy solution but it seems there isn't one that I can copy/paste which will definitely sort it for you. All I can do is list some of the most common fixes. If you have the original Windows 7 disc (or a Startup Repair disc) then of course the first thing you can do is use this. Startup Repair Alternatively you could attempt starting in safe mode, and then run system restore. Safe Mode Last but not least (and far from easiest) is to image your system drive, which I've read can help two thirds of people afflicted with this problem (that information came from only one source and I'm not wholly ready to believe it). I'll be honest, I've done a system image but the following tutorial is comprehensive. System Image Recovery Note: It is an involved process and will take some time (s'why I've never done it!), as we

Not able to boot into system [duplicate] up vote 0 down vote favorite This question already has an answer here: How to reinstall Windows 7 using in-place upgrade when the system is unbootable? 1 answer I have a computer with system restore did Windows 7. When I boot it, I get the usual starting animation, the harddisk LED blinks but then the screen gets black and nothing more happens. No sound, so activity, no changes when I press any keys or the mouse buttons. When I start the computer with a Fedora 23 Linux live system from usb pendrive, it has no problems, everything works out of the box. When I start the Windows system restore (I have testet several restore points), it takes some minutes with harddisk LED activity, but then an error appears: 0x8000ffff, and some text, that it is an unspecified error. Not helpful. I am not very experienced with recent Windows systems, but very experienced with Linux and Mac OS X. So I need help here. Now the question is: What is the best and fastest way to get the computer back to work with the old Windows 7 system? When I use the Windows 7 install CD, is there a way to install it over the old system? Could this work? Will the installed software work (or at least most of it)? I have not tested it,
