I've tried reboot from cd using home xp edition but it still comes up with \windows\system32\config\system is corrupt or missing. XD Also, a UPS has nothing at all to do with random registry corruption. Your hard drive may be having issues. If your HDD is more than three years old, you might consider a replacement. Run "chkdsk /p" or "chkdsk /f". If you see a lot of errors or bad sectors, it's time to go shopping. Otherwise, let chkdsk fix the problems and go on your merry way. Good luck! Report Mohd. The fix posted by this user will work as its the same fix I use everytime. It's on the first page of replies about 2/3rds of the way down, containing a link Any yeah how would the HDD be damaged by light as im assuming no-one is taking the drive out, then taking it apart, and even if it was that it wouldn't just corrupt the odd reg entry! There are no Windows 7 Machine Device Drivers for the computer and you don't have the original XP installation Disk so pretty much out of options except maybe load Linux through the USB if it is possible. If it is not economical to repair/replace your CD drive, then you will not be able to repair your Windows installation and your computer will be worthless. Now, the problem I have is that I followed the procedure in this tutorial: How can I repair the Windows 8 EFI Bootloader? and now the result is the following. This blue screen can occur if, for some reason, this has become corrupted. One method you can use to recover from this is to boot into some form of boot disk, whether this is a Windows bootable setup (using command prompt from Shift+F10) or a linux boot disk. From here, you can make a copy of C:\Windows\System32\config\system as something like C:\Windows\System32\config\system.old. Within the folder structure C:\Windows\System32\config\RegBack you will find last working backups of your registry. You can copy the
