If you’re a casual internet user, you may seldom notice the T3 timeout errors; and when they do occur, you simply reboot your modem and surf on. However, if you’re a gamer or stock trader, a dropped connection will wreck your game, if not your day.T3 timeout errors are caused by too much noise signal on the upstream channel. For those of you who are interested in a more technical description of T3 timeout errors, here it is:The cable modem has sent 16 Ranging Request (RNG-REQ) messages without receiving a Ranging Response (RNG-RSP) message in reply from the cable modem termination system (CMTS). The cable modem is therefore resetting its cable interface and restarting the registration process. This typically is caused by noise on the upstream that causes the loss of MAC-layer messages. Noise could also reduce the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) on the upstream to a point where the cable modem’s power level i

About every 15 minutes the modem resyncs due to a T3 Timeout error - I posted in the Direct Forum and the tech there said that I would have to replace the modem - but I've done a bit of searching and everything I've found seems to show that a cisco error codes T3 timeout is a problem somewhere along the external connection and not with the modem - the only other option the tech suggested was to find someone else with cable, plug in the modem there and wait to see if it happens - which isn't really a practical solution for me. And spending $100 on a replacement modem that, from what I've found, looks like it wont even solve the problem is a bit too expensive. I've tried replacing the splitter, plugging the modem directly into the connection coming into my apartment, replacing the cable, but none have made any difference.
