I have an old application Creatacard Gold which my wife uses all the time and works fine the application was unable to start correctly 0xc00005 league of legends from Windows 98SE, through XP right up to Vista with SP2 on a variety of PC's that I have built over the years. It doesn't need to use any compatability mode to run on these systems. I installed

it OK on my new PC running Windows 7 Home Premium. This is a new built PC using an Asus P5Q-EM mobo,E5300 CPU and 4GB of Kingston RAM, that has not had any other Windows version installed. Other Apps loaded to date all work fine so I don't suspect the RAM. When trying to run the Creatacard program in Windows 7 it reports "Application Error - The Application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005). Click OK to close

the application". I have tried setting the compatabilty modes to XP SP2 and SP3 as well as Vista. Also tried running as Administrator in these modes but no success with same error message. There is no support from the authors as it is 10 years old. Any help appreciated. Our tests show this. As you say, on Win7 x86 there is no problem. I guess this is because there are 16-bit components contained in the application. These will not run on x64, as this article mentions:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896458Although only XP/2003 are mentioned, this also goes for other x64 editions of our OSs.I regret we could not get it working, but I'm sure you will figure it out! :)Kind regards, \Rob Proposed as answer by mattburrMicrosoft employee, Moderator Tuesday, November 03, 2009 3:22 PM Marked as answer by mattburrMicrosoft employee, Moderator Thursday, December 31, 2009 9:45 PM Tuesday, November 03, 2009 6:24 AM Reply | Quote All replies 0 Sign in to vote This is not only happening with a 10 year old product. Error (0xc0000005) You get an error that says: The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005). Click OK to close the application When running WinSQL. Root cause This error only appears on Windows 7 machine that has a product from Symantec installed on the machine. So far we have only found Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) that causes this problem. There could be other products that use the same DLL.When you run any application on this machine, SEP loads its own DLL in the same memory space as WinSQL. The actual error occurs in SYSFER.DLL, not WinSQL. This DLL should be located in your %WINDIR%\System32\ folder. Technical detailsSEP loads its own DLLs with every application that you run on your machine. Our analysis show that SEP tries to register several hooks in the OS and generates this error during the process. Since the DLL is loaded in the same memory space of the actual application (WinSQL in this case), it appears that WinSQL is generating the error. How can we be so sure?We used a third party application called Dependency Walker (http://www.dependencywalker.com/) that show a list of DLLs that are loaded by an application. The following images show screen shots taken from two machines. One with SEP installed and the other without it. With SEP installed Without SEP When SEP is installed on the machine, it loads SYSFER.DLL and SECHOST.DLL along with WinSQL.exe. SECHOST.DLL is provided by Microsoft and does not seem to cause any problem. SYSFER.DLL, however, is provided by Symantec. You should be able to confirm this by checking the properties for C:\Windows\System32\Sysfer.dll file. When SEP is not installed WinSQL.exe loads by itself. After WinSQL.exe starts running, it loads other DLLs provided by the operating system. These DLLs are displayed when you click the plus sign next to WinSQL.exe Which applications are affected This problem occurs with any application that is written in Borland C++ Builder 2006. We have created a very small application that
