query and I get the following error: "Compile error.in query expression" I've seen this function work in other Access databases. How come it does not work in mine? Answer: This error can be caused by multiple scenarios. Let's look at two of the most common causes. Option #1 This error can occur when there is a broken Reference in your Access database and you've access 2016 compile error in query expression tried to use one of the built-in Access functions such as Left, Instr, Len, Year, Mid, etc. To correct the problem, you need to open your Access database. Press Alt+F11 to open the Microsoft Visual Basic window. When the Microsoft Visual Basic window appears, select References under the Tools menu. When the References window appears, check to see if there are any References checked that start with "MISSING:". If there are any, uncheck these References. Then click on the OK button. In this example, we want to uncheck the reference called "MISSING: Microsoft Word 9.0 Object Library". If you, in fact, need this Reference, go back to the References window (Tools > References) and re-check the reference. Click on the OK button. Now your Access database should have fixed the broken references and the error message should disappear. In the event that there were no References that start with "MISSING:", uncheck one or more of the existing References. Make sure that you record the References that you are unchecking. Then click on the OK button. Then go back to the References window (Tools > References) and re-check the references

This function gets the user's NT userID and other misc. info and then uses it to do some security. When I imported the function and tried to test it I got the following error: there was "There was an error compiling a function" The Visual Basic module contains a syntax error - check the code and then recompile it" The function runs fine on the database that I imported it from. Below is the VB for the function and I put the line that the compile bites on in quotes. Option Compare Database Option Explicit Declare Function API_GetUserName Lib "advapi32.dll" Alias "GetUserNameA" (ByVal lpBuffer As String, nSize As Long) As Long Declare Function GetComputerName& Lib "KERNEL32" Alias "GetComputerNameA" (ByVal lpBuffer As String, nSize As there was an Long) Global gbUpdateUser As Boolean Global gsSQL As String Dim msUserID As String Dim msSQL As String Dim mRS As Recordset "Dim mDB As Database" Public Function Startup() As Boolean gbUpdateUser = False msUserID = GetUserName() Set mDB = CurrentDb CaptureLogin msSQL = "SELECT * FROM tblUsers WHERE tblUsers.NTID= '" & msUserID & " ';" Set mRS = mDB.OpenRecordset(msSQL, dbOpenSnapshot) With mRS If Not .EOF Then .MoveLast If .RecordCount > 0 _ And !admin = True Then gbUpdateUser = True End If End If .Close End With mDB.Close Set mRS = Nothing Set mDB = Nothing MsgBox "Welcome to the Problem Report Database", vbInformation + vbOKOnly, "Welcome" End Function Does anyone have any idea why this would happen on the new database and not on the one I copied it from. I'm using Access2000 and Windows2000. Thanks very much. P.S I didn't paste in the entire code so if you wonder why something might be missing.....
