Thanks! Christian Crowder says June 28, 2016 at 4:35 pm I would try going into the task manager and killing everything Adobe related or making sure that no other users are in the file. This happened to me today and to fix it, I had to install all of the Adobe updates, kill the Adobe tasks then it opened fine. This error is created for security if someone else is in the file (or if you lock the file on your machine to begin with). This locks the file to the original person who opened it, and creates a "Read Only" copy when you open it. Like I said, try your updates and then kill Adobe in task manager. Hello Robertcro,This problem mostly arise when the Portable Document Format (.pdf) file is opened, before it was fully downloaded, older versions of Adobe Reader
good part of a day today, I tried to find out the cause off a mysterious Adobe Acrobat error. Let me explain the background first. In this information system, the process involves http://custom-designed-databases.com/wordpress/2013/fixing-the-adobe-acrobat-error-opening-this-document-the-file-is-damaged/ a utility that opens a pdf document, took a binary array of the bytes that make up that file, and stored a copy of it in a sql server database. https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB74299&actp=LIST_RECENT Then I had a web application page allow users to download the pdf to their local computer or to open it. It was during this opening of the pdf on there was the web page that the error happened. The actual Adobe Acrobat error states that "there was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired." Additionally I discovered when opening the pdf document in notepad.exe that there were html like tags within brackets in the files that generated the error which was there was a different that what I saw when looking at ‘good' pdf documents. This is obviously why the error indicated the file is damaged. I verified this because when I opened up a good pdf file with notepad, it did not contain all those tags. Doing some more research, I tried to solve the problem in two ways. The first thing I did was add a ‘response.end' method in the code to download the file and adding a statement to ‘flush' the contents of the memory. Then I tried commenting out some code I had used to take ‘chunks' of byte data. The purpose of that chunk process was to process it into a byte array for uploading to the sql server into a varbinary form. This was in a loop that was supposed to make it easier in cases where the PDF document was very large in size. The code that was causing the problem is listed here: while (BytesReadSoFar < fil.Length) { using (System.IO.FileStream MyOpenedFile = new System.IO.FileStream(fil.FullName, System.IO.FileMode.Open, System.IO.FileAccess.Read, System.IO
