(amal_ibrahim) Jan 25, 2008 6:41 AM (in response to (Tess_Beaumont)) I have the same problem. It was strange because I have the same version at work and it opened the very document which was supposedly damaged and couldn't be repaired. I unistalled the program and now having difficulty re-installing. I think it has to do with the windows installer but I don't know how to fix that. Like Show 0 Likes(0) Actions 2. Make sure that no extraneous bytes appear before %PDF at the head of https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/pdf-error-1015-11001-update.html the file. PDF consumers: Enterprise admins and users If you are a customer or an enterprise IT professional, you can disable the header validation on machines by setting the appropriate preference. You can set this preference per user in HKCU or at the machine level for all users in HKLM. You can use a similar method on Mac OS by modifying the same plist preference. If the AVGeneral key does not exist, create it manually. The HKLM path is generically: HKLM\Software\Adobe\(product name)\(version)\AVGeneral\bValidateBytesBeforeHeader=dword:00000000 For example, to change the behavior for Acrobat 11.0, create a DWORD at this location: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\11.0\AVGeneral\bValidateBytesBeforeHeader=dword:00000000 The HKCU path is generically: HKCU\Software\Adobe\(product name)\(version)\AVGeneral\bValidateBytesBeforeHeader=dword:00000000 For example, to change the behavior for Reader 10.0, create a DWORD at this location: HKCU\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\10.0\AVGeneral\bValidateBytesBeforeHeader=dword:00000000 Always change the product and version number in the preference path to match your installation. This method allows the PDF to display on machines you control. Twitter™ and Facebook posts are not covered under the terms of Creative Commons. Cannot Open Damaged File About 25% of the pdf attachments I am receiving cannot be opened. Error Message: "There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired." This only began in the last two weeks and I believe just after I installed Acrobat Reader XI. I am using Acrobat IX. It occurs with pdf attachments sent from multiple senders with different ISP's. I have repaired Acrobat Reader XI to no avail. I am out of ideas and in need of assistance. Bill Woods 3 Answers Voted Best Answer Edit Answer (for another 6 minutes) Usually the conflict stems from how those PDFs were created and that is where most of the problems come from. It could be created from an older version of Acrobat, someone could have used an online converter that produce a bad copy of the PDF, the converter tools on Acrobat could be damaged in some way. However, since you mention you are using Reader XI, uninstall it and find a copy of Reader X and see if you can open the damage file.Or try viewing the document through your browser or use another program like Foxit Reader and see if the file will open up.
